The tilt switch contains a small metal
ball that always rolls downwards.
In the correct tilt position, it will
reach the side with two contacts.
If you shake the module,
10
The tilt switch
you can hear the clicking
of the ball. As soon as both
contacts are touched, the
circuit is closed. Install the tilt
switch with the contacts TS1
and TS2 between battery and
LED. You can then tilt the entire
experiment in all directions
in order to see when the LED
switches on. The abbreviation
TS stands for Tilt Sensor.
Use the tilt switch as an alarm
system. Place the experiment
on the table so that the LED
is switched off. If someone
changes the orientation of the
switch, the LED will reveal it.
Congratulations! You have completed the first
ten experiments. You are now already famil-
iar with the foundations of the electric circuit,
and now you’re reading to use a much more
complicated component: the micro-controller.
It has considerably more connections. That’s
why you need to be even more careful to
connect everything in the correct way. The
most important things: M– is the negative
pole and is for BAT–, and M+ is the positive
pole and is for BAT+. Remember the import-
ant rule: connect check switch on! The
cable for the positive pole is connected last;
only after all other connections were checked
carefully.
The micro-controller is a small computer,
which can run different programmes.
All programmes are already complete
and included. You only need to start the
right programme for the corresponding
experiment. This is done with the connectors
A to H.
