HI
NG FOR /lES T PERFORMANCE
The l\l
A(
;NUl\1 ZC will operate best if attention is given to operating the unit with the damper open for a short
period of time
after refueling in order to bring the fuel load as well us the fireplac
e/
chimney system, tip to its
optimum operating temperature.
By operating the MAGNUM ZC with a hot start afte r refueling, the
MAG
NUM ZC can achieve the bum rates of slow com bustion, but with the temperature and performance of
medi um co mbustion. Combustion efficiency is relative 10
firebox temperatu re, and the

ancc. Once the firebox is ha l enough so that names
reach bey

the baffle, the damp
er
can be closed 10 the minimum selling. If the [lames do not continue beyond
the
edge of the baffle, the air control should be reopened to establish a holler fire. The benefit
of
this technique

To reduce the likelihood of smoki ng when ope ning the doors, open the damper

open ing the doors. Your
fireplace has been designed and tested to provide smoke free operation. Occasionally there may
be a small
amount of smoking upon lighting the fire, until the chimney heats up. but this should not continue. If the
fireplace continues to smoke
it is probably due to one

st extend at least 3' (915 mm) above its point

off
sets, additional height is
required 10 maintain the minimum height and to compensate for the decrease in draft. Additional height
will
increase draft and will decrease the tendency to smoke if caused by low draft. Tall buildings, trees, and
surrounding hills will cause down drafts resulting in
back drafting (smoking) when opening the fireplace
doors.
