Hosting remote presentation sessions
Once you have a published presentation website that was created by Web Designer MX Premium and
published on MAGIX Online World, you can use Xara's remote presentation system to remotely control
a run-through of your presentation with any number of viewers over the Internet.
With this system, you provide each of the people you want to see your presentation with a unique link,
which they access using their normal web browser. They see the opening page of your presentation, but
they can't step through the presentation, or interact with it themselves directly. Instead, as you move
through the steps of the presentation using the arrow keys, step by step and page by page, all your
viewers see their web browser update automatically. Whatever page and steps you see in your web
browser, all your viewers will see too. Typically you would have all your viewers in an audio conference
call at the same time, so you can talk through your presentation.
Setting up a remote presentation
Setting up a remote presentation is easy. Just follow these steps:
1.
Publish your presentation website on MAGIX Online World, view it using its published web
address and make sure you can step through it using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Take a
copy of the URL of the first page of your presentation.
2.
Select "Help" > "Remote presentations...." from the Web Designer Premium menu and login
with your MAGIX Online World registered email address and password. Or click the button to
create a MAGIX Online World account if you don't already have one.
3.
Enter a title for your presentation and the URL of the first page.
4.
You can optionally enter a message that is shown to your viewers prior to the start of your
presentation. So you may choose to make the message something like "Presentation starting at
2pm". Note: As the presenter, you can't see this message.
5.
Click the Create presentation button. Your presentation appears in the list on the right. A
unique URL is shown for your new presentation. Copy that link address and provide to everyone
who you are inviting to see your presentation, telling them when it will take place.
6.
When the time comes to start your presentation, login again at http://presenter.xara.com/ and
click the Start button next to the presentation on the right. You will then see the first page of your
presentation, as will all your viewers. When you click the right arrow key to move to the next
step or page, all your viewers will see the same thing as you in their web browsers.
7.
In the top right corner of the browser window, the remote presentation system shows you how
many viewers are currently viewing your current presentation. If you move the mouse pointer
over this text, you'll see a list of the names of each current viewer.
Limitations
Only 'next step', 'previous step', 'page down', 'page up' operations, and ordinary web links, are
transmitted between the presenter and the viewers. So avoid relying on other events, such as mouse-over
events, pop-up photos, pop-up layers, eye-catcher widgets or Flash animations which require user
interaction, because these won't be seen by your viewers.
