Website Presentations
Xara Web Designer 7 Premium allows you to create web presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint®
slideshow-style effects such as animated step transitions within a page and animated page transitions.
Viewers of your web presentation can move through it sequentially, step by step and page by page, using
the right arrow and Page Down key to view the next step/page, and the left arrow or Page Up key to
move backwards.
You can apply transition effects to layers (referred to as presentation steps within a presentation). These
layers or 'steps' can contain one or multiple graphics and/or text objects, and these objects will appear on
screen in an animated way. When there are no more steps to reveal within a page, the next page of the
presentation is displayed, with its own page transition effect if it has one.
As well as using these keyboard keys to navigate the presentation, you can also add links, for example
via a button, to allow your viewers to move to the previous or next presentation step. This interaction
defines the difference between a presentation and a website - they are very similar but viewers cannot
navigate sequentially through a website using keyboard keys.
You can toggle a document between presentation and web mode using the Presentation Website
checkbox in the Website tab
of the Web Properties dialog. This is useful if you want to turn an existing website into a presentation,
rather than creating it from scratch.
See About transitions for a list of transition styles.
Note: A website does not have to be set as a presentation website in order to have animated page and
layer transitions. Page and link transitions can be specified on the Page and/or Link tabs of the Website
Properties dialog, and will work with normal links to pages. Likewise a pop-up layer that is triggered by
a link to the layer on the page can also appear with a transition effect, which can be set using the Web
transition tab
of the Layer Properties dialog. So the difference between a web presentation and regular web document
is that a presentation enables the ability to step forward and backwards through a presentation using
keyboard keys, as with a PowerPoint presentation.
