You can therefore choose to resample JPEG photos to a lower resolution more suited
for viewing on screen (e.g. 96dpi) or printing (typically not more than 300 dpi)., and
thus reduce the size of the XPS file. The JPEG quality slider controls the quality of the
resampled JPG. The lower the quality, the smaller the resultant XPS file. A quality of
75 is the recommended setting which is actually very high quality image.
Color Mode
XPS files, like Xara documents can contain a mix of both RGB and CMYK colors.
However, the XPS viewer shows CMYK colors as color corrected for the printer. Xara
on the other hand shows all colors (CMYK and RGB) as screen colors or printer colors
(depending on the Show Printer Color menu option). This slightly different approach
to displaying colors can result in significant differences between RGB and CMYK
version of the same color. In Xara, for example, cyan is shown as the same color on
screen whether it’s been defined as CMYK or RGB. XPS displays the same color
completely differently.
Selecting the RGB colors option will force all colors to be converted to RGB to provide
consistency with the way Xara displays colors. Selecting Native colors will export
objects using whichever color model you’ve used in Page & Layout Designer, but this
will likely result in color changes where you’ve mixed RGB and CMYK colors in the
same document.
PDF Export
The Portable Document Format (PDF) provides the best way to transfer drawings and
document to others. The free Adobe PDF Reader is very popular and enables anyone
to view and print your PDF document.
For very complex vector graphics, PDF can be very slow (sometimes 20 times or
more than MAGIX Page & Layout Designer 2013), so drawings that take a few
seconds to draw in MAGIX Page & Layout Designer 2013 can take minutes,
especially when printing. So sometimes it’s quicker to convert complex vector
graphics into a bitmap before exporting your PDF.
PDF files are vector graphics files-which means they are resolution independent, and
are great for printing on high resolution devices, and you can zoom in to view detail
with no loss of quality. Your graphics or document exported as a PDF should look
exactly like it does in MAGIX Page & Layout Designer 2013.
There are different versions of PDF, including a specialized version, known as PDF/X
which was developed by the printing industry and has become a very popular way of
transferring files for commercial printing.
PDF/X creation is only available in Xara Designer Pro
