color is not as reliable as using a solid pure ink of the required color. However it
provides a way of ensuring much more accurate color reproduction than judging
colors by eye or assuming your computer monitor screen or inkjet printer is accurate
(computer screens and desktop printers vary quite considerably).
MAGIX Page & Layout Designer 2013 also supports both type of PANTONE color
system. You can use them as spot or solid colors or use the PANTONE 4-COLOR
PROCESS library which defines exact mixes of CMYK colors. You can find the
PANTONE color libraries in the
COLOR GALLERY.
PANTONE COLOR BRIDGE
These colors are listed in the gallery under PANTONE
®
COLOR BRIDGE™ Coated and
PANTONE
®
COLOR BRIDGE™ Uncoated. Using these PANTONE solid colors will
create spot colors. See Imagesetting (on page 293) for more information on spot
colors.
If you have a PANTONE color swatch you can pick a requi
red PANTONE color for
your design and specify it with a color from this section of the
COLOR Gallery.
When sending the artwork to your print company, an additional plate will be created
for each PANTONE color that you choose. The company will then print the normal
plates as usual for CMYK colors and will print spot plates using the specified
PANTONE inks. As the print company will use the exact PANTONE number you
specified you can be assured of the color appearing exactly as expected. This is
particularly useful for corporate logos where the color needs to be exactly the same
whenever you produce company literature, stationery etc.
PANTONE colors are displayed on screen using an approximation of CMYK colors,
and if you print to a home printer then the color will be converted for printing. But any
conversions are approximations; the only way to accurately see a PANTONE color is
to look at a printed color swatch which you can purchase from PANTONE or one of its
resellers, or to see a wet proof from the print company.
Technical note: To convert a PANTONE COLOR BRIDGE color to the equivalent
process color, select the color in the color editor then change the color type to
normal color. Note that normal (CMYK) colors cannot accurately reproduce some
PANTONE colors which may show significant color shifts from the true color.
PANTONE 4-COLOR PROCESS
These colors are listed in the gallery under PANTONE
®
4-COLOR PROCESS Coated
and
PANTONE
®
4-COLOR PROCESS Uncoated.
These PANTONE colors are pre-defined CMYK colors. If you have a PANTONE 4-
COLOR PROCESS swatch you can pick a required PANTONE color for your design
and specify it with a color from these sections of the
COLOR Gallery. MAGIX Page &
