ClusterCATS Explorer system requirements
You can install the ClusterCATS Explorer component on a computer separate from the
cluster so that you can administer the cluster from a central location, but you don’t
have to. However, if you do, make sure the computer on which you install this
component meets the minimum system requirements.
System requirements for the Windows-based Explorer
The Windows-based ClusterCATS Explorer runs from a Windows machine (NT, 98, or
95), regardless of the platform on which you install ClusterCATS Server. Its system
requirements are as follows:
• Intel Pentium 166 Mhz or greater CPU
• 50 MB of free disk space
• 64 MB of RAM
• Windows NT operating system v4.0 or greater, or Windows 98, or Windows 95
• Windows NT Service Pack 4 or greater (if running Windows NT)
• Administrative privileges
System requirements for the ClusterCATS Web Explorer
Use the ClusterCATS Web Explorer if you have a UNIX-only environment and cannot
obtain a Windows machine to run the Explorer. Install the ClusterCATS Web Explorer
program on a UNIX server that meets the following requirements:
• Sun SPARC workstation
• 75 MB of free disk space
• 128 MB of RAM (more recommended)
• Solaris operating system v.2.51 or greater with Patch 103582-18 or higher
• Netscape Enterprise Server v3.5.1 or greater or Apache Web Server v1.3.6 or
greater
Use a Web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater or Netscape Navigator
3.0 or greater) from a Windows or UNIX machine to access the Web Explorer program
you installed on the UNIX box. See “Using the ClusterCATS Web Explorer” on page 231.
Configure your primary DNS server
When you enter a URL into a Web browser and press Enter, the browser is able to
locate the Web site you want to visit because of the name-to-IP address translation that
the Internet Domain Name System (DNS) performs. This section reviews two
important components of the DNS infrastructure that enable this capability —
primary DNS servers and local DNS servers.
