Tensioning Timed Knife Drive Belts
This describe s the tensio nin g p ro ce d ure fo r the timed left and rig h t knife drive belts. T he illu stra tions for the
right side are opposite to what is shown.
IMPORTANT:
To prolong be
lt and drive life, do NOT over-tighten belt.
IMPORTANT:
Do NOT use the adjuster bolt at the drive pulley to adjust timing belt tension.
1. Open left endshield. Refer to Opening Endshields,
page 37.
2. Loosen two nuts (A) on knife drive belt idler bracket.

3. Position pry bar (A) under the idler bracket (C), and
push the bracket up until a force o f 6 lb (27 N) deects
the belt 1/2 in. (13 mm) at mid-point of the upper span.
