6.5.2 Removin
gKnife
WARNING
Stand to rear of knife during removal to reduce risk of injury from cutting edges. Wear heavy gloves when
handling knife.
1. Manually stroke knife to its outer limit and clean area
around the knifehead.
2. Remove bolt (A).
3. Re move the greas e zerk (B) from the pin.
4. Use a screwdriver or a chisel in slot (C) to r elease load
on knifeh ead pin.
5. Pry pin upward with a screwdriver in pin groove u ntil
pin is clear of knifehead.
6. Push the knife asse mb ly inboard until it is clear of the
output arm.
7. Seal bearing in knifehead with plastic or tape.
8. Wrap a chain around knifehead and pull knife out.
NOTE:
For single knife drive with splice plate, remove bolts from
splice plate and pull knife out from both ends.

IMPORTANT:
The following procedure applies to single knife headers. Repeat this procedure for each knife on double knife
headers .
1. Remove the knif
e. Refer to previou s section.
NOTE:
It is not necessary to wrap the knifehead to protect
the bearing as it is being replaced.
