OPERATION
4.15 Transporting Header
WARNING
Do NOT drive windrower with header attached on a road or highway at night, or in conditions which reduce
visibility, such as fog or rain. The width of the header may not be apparent under these conditions.
4.15.1 Transporting Header on Windrower
CAUTION
• C heck local laws for width regulations and lighting or marking requirements before transporting on
roads.
• Follow all recommended procedures in your windrower operator’s manual for transporting, towing, etc.
• D isengage header drive clutch when travelling to and from the field.
• B efore driving windrower on a roadway, be sure flash ing amber lamps, red tail lamp s, and head lamps
are clean and working properly. Pivot amber lamps for best visibility by approaching traffic. Alwa ys u se
these lamps on roads to provide adequate warning to other vehicles.
•DoNOTusefield lamps on roads; they may confuse other drivers.
• B efore driving on a roadway, clean slow moving vehicle emblem and reflectors. Adjust rear view mirror
and clean windows.
• Lower the reel fully and raise header unless transporting in hills.
• M aintain adequate visibility and be alert for roadside obstructions, oncoming traffic, and bridg es .
• W hen travelling downhill, reduce speed and keep header at a minimum height. This provides maximum
stability if forward motion is stopped for any reason. Raise header completely at bottom of grade to
avoid contacting ground.
• Travel speed should be such that complete control and machine stability are maintained at all times.
4.15.2 To
wing
Headers with the Slow Speed Transport/Stabilizer Wh eel option can be towed behind a prop erly configured MacDon
windrower or an agricultural tractor. Refer to the windrower operator’s manual for instructions.
