CIE Chromaticity Diagram
In 1931, "Human observer" experiments were conducted to compare colors, brightness
levels and contrast ratios. These experiments are the basis for models used in the science
of color today. The CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage, or International
Commission on Illumination) has standardized these models and they are being used in
various color spaces. Chromaticity is a measure of how a light source is perceived by the
human eye when viewed directly. The 1931 CIE Chromaticity Diagram defines these colors
in an easy to use shark fin shaped x-y chart.
