Heat Sinks
Assuming the Luxeon products are being driven at nominal current levels, thermal
management is the most important design consideration. The short-term consequences
of heat on the Luxeon include: reduction of luminous flux (light output); increase of wave-
length (color shifts more towards red); reduction of forward voltage (voltage drop across
the LED). The principal long-term effect of heat on the Luxeon is shortened life. As a
result, thermal management solutions play an integral role in any Luxeon application.
Heat sink accessories such as thermal adhesive, grease, and tape are available. Please
