Medium Voltage ICs
Medium voltage ICs deliver the power for driving Luxeon for input voltages of 12V to 48V.
These solutions are commonly integrated in automotive, industrial, and military applica-
tions.
There are three types of medium voltage ICs. First, the Boost Regulator ICs are used
when the input voltage is lower than the forward voltage of Luxeon. Second, the Buck
Regulator ICs efficiently reduce the input voltage and regulate the current for driving
Luxeon. Third, the LDO (Low Dropout voltage regulator) is a linear regulator that is used
when the input voltage is greater than the forward voltage of the Luxeon. It is a lower cost,
but less efficient solution than the Buck Regulator, and is appropriate when the difference
between the input voltage and LED forward voltage is small.
