KALI AUDIO MV-BT User’s Guide 9
Tips and Tricks
Take these steps to keep audio fidelity as high as possible when using Bluetooth:
Always make sure that device that is paired with the MV-BT is turned up to maximum vol-
ume, and that whatever app or program you’re playing audio from also has its output vol-
ume set to maximum. This will ensure that you are streaming audio at the highest resolution
possible from your device.
In general, ~80% is a good nominal level for the MV-BT. You should adjust the level on the
next device in your signal chain so that the MV-BT can play at or near full output without
overloading your system.
If you’re plugging your MV-BT directly into speakers:
If possible, set the speaker’s input sensitivity to +4 dB. This is a common level
for professional balanced connections.
The speakers’ level should be set so that the MV-BT can be at about 80%
volume and it is comfortable to listen. Many speakers have a position with
a detente, or a position marked “0 dB” on their volume pot. This is a useful
place to start when setting up your system.
If you’re plugging your MV-BT into an interface or mixer:
If possible, set the input sensitivity of the input channel to +4 dB.
If the input channel has a preamp, keep it turned all the way down. Do not
use Phantom Power.
If you can adjust the level of the input channel, set it so that the MV-BT can
be at about 80% volume and it is comfortable to listen to with the rest of
your usual settings. This may be well lower than the 0.0 dB level.
If you are having difficulty pairing your device to the MV-BT:
Ensure that the MV-BT is in pairing mode. When in pairing mode, the LED around the Kali
logo on the top of the MV-BT will flash rapidly. To initiate pairing mode, press and hold the
Kali logo for two seconds.
If the MV-BT is still not available from your device’s Bluetooth menu, simply restart it by re-
moving the 5V power cable and plugging it back in. This should initiate pairing mode right
away.
You may encounter interference from devices that were previously paired that are still in the
room with the MV-BT. Make sure to unpair from those devices, or turn Bluetooth off on those
devices before attempting to pair new devices.
If you use your device with multiple MV-BTs, you might have some trouble connecting to the
right one immediately. To mitigate this problem:
Make sure you’re looking for the current MV-BT you wish to connect to under your device’s
Available Devices” menu, rather than the “Paired Devices” menu.
You may wish to tell your device to forget its connection to an MV-BT once you are done. This
will streamline the process of connecting to subsequent MV-BTs.
