It is a natural occurrence of raw timber to expand and contract, as a result, some of our
Blue Mountain pieces will split/crack. This happens because wood is an organic
substance and tries its hardest to match its environment; to do this, it moves, swells,
and shrinks (cracks will vary in size depending on temperature and humidity).
Regardless of how well dried a piece of wood is it will always grow and shrink
according to seasonal changes and the relative humidity of the air. This is NOT a
structural defect and will not affect the strength of the piece.
When you purchase these products please remember that if this occurs, it should be
viewed as part of the beauty of the raw lumber and not a material defect.
If you ordered your item unfinished & leave it unfinished it will weather & eventually
turn a lighter, grayish color. This does not weaken the piece. If you ordered your item
stained it will retain its color longer. You can retreat with another coat of stain directly
on top without stripping or sanding if you so desire.
