Step 9:Ifyourvehicledoesnotalreadyhaveanexistingshifteropening,cuttheopeningnow.IfyouareusingaLokarshifter
boot,themaximumopeningforaroundbootis4"indiameter,andthemaximumopeningforarectangularbootis4"
wideby5-1/2"long.
Before proceeding any further, the transmission should be installed in the vehicle, with the vehicle body, seat and dashboard in
place.
Step 10:Makesurethetwo5/16"-24x3/8"buttonheadboltsthatattachtheleftsidebananabrackettotheshifterassembly
(inthecurved,slottedholes)aretight.Beforetighteningtheshifterassemblydowntothemainplate,movetheshifter
throughallthegearpositions.Makesurethattheshifterleverandknobwillnotcomeincontactwiththedashortheseat.
Theshifterassemblycanbetiltedforwardorbackwardifneededbylooseningthe5/16"-24x3/8"buttonheadboltsinthe
curved, slotted holes in the left side banana bracket. Fig. 6
Ifyoueverdisassembletheshifterassembly,besurethatthe5/16"-24x3/8"buttonheadboltsandlockwashersareput
back into the curved, slotted holes in the banana brackets. Installing longer bolts could prevent the shifter from operating.
NOTE:Ifyoufindafterinstallationthattheshapeorlengthoftheshifterleverisnotsuitableforyourapplication,Lokar
has a number of different styles and lengths of shifter lever replacement kits available for purchase separately through our
dealernetwork.
Step 11:PuttheshifterintotheParkpositionandcheckthepositionofthequadlever.Itwillneedtobepointingtoaboutthe
4:30position.Ifitisnot,loosenthesetscrewinthetopofthequadleverwitha1/8"Allenwrenchandslidethequad
leveroffoftheshaft.Repositionitontheshaftatapproximatelythe4:30position,andretightenthesetscrew.Fig. 6
NOTE: If your shifter is placed near the front of the bracket assembly, you may need to position the quad lever slightly
higher,suchasatthe4:00positioninstead.Thiswillhelppreventover-centeringthetransgearlever.
Step 12:Removetherodendfromthenewtransgearlever.Installthetransgearleverontothetransmissionandsecurewithyour
originalnut.PlacethetransgearleverintheParkpositionwiththetopoftheleverpointingupandslightlytowardsthe
rearofthetransmission,ataboutthe1:00position.Fig. 7
Step 13:Thethreadedrodwillconnectthequadlevertothetransgearlever.Checktomakesurethatnothingwillinterferewiththe
travelofthethreadedrod.Ifthereisanyinterference,thethreadedrodcanbebentslightlyasneeded.Sometransmission
caseshaveanexternalcastingfeaturethatmayneedtobetrimmedslightlywithagrindertopreventinterferencewiththe
threaded rod, depending on the location of your shifter.
VerifythatboththeshifterandthetransmissionareintheParkposition.Measurecenter-to-centerbetweenthe1/4"holesin
thetransgearleveronthetransmissionandthequadleverontheshifter.Subtract1-3/4".Fig. 8Thisisthelengthyouwill
cutthethreadedrodto.Useahacksaworothermetal-cuttingsawtoshortenthethreadedrod.
