• Now remove the rubber gasket from the MAF and install it on the LPE plastic intake (install the
gasket on the smaller diameter side of the intake with the expansion cuts and the air tting near-
est to it). Now apply a light lm of petroleum jelly or similar lubricant to the inside of the rubber
gasket and slip the MAF into the LPE plastic intake (this may take some effort). Make sure that you
have the correct end installed in the plastic intake and gasket and that you have it lined up properly
BEFORE you insert the MAF into the LPE air intake. The end with the honeycomb material inside
the MAF should be installed in the gasket and the plastic intake (the air ows through the lter, into
the plastic intake and then through the MAF and should ow in the direction the arrows on the MAF
indicate). The MAF should be installed with the three-wire connector facing up and on the side of
the MAF closest to the engine (in the same way as it was installed from the factory).
• Place the plastic block-off plate over the air lter and slip the far corner under the wiring harness.
The smooth side of the block-off plate should be facing up (textured side should not be visible).
The plastic block-off plate should rest ush against the body of the vehicle. The air lter neck
should stick up through the block-off plate. Put the worm-gear clamp back onto the air lter - posi-
tioning the gear mechanism on the side of the lter closest to the front of the car.
• Place a thin lm of petroleum jelly or similar lubricant on the inside of the air lter neck. Test t
the LPE air intake in the air lter to make sure the block-off plate is positioned correctly - lining up
the mounting hole on the mounting tab of the intake with the mounting hole on the radiator shroud.
Make sure the LPE air intake is pushed down into the air lter. You may need to push from under-
neath the car or have someone help you. Once you are sure the system is properly located and that
the hood will close properly, use the existing holes in the plate as a guide to mark the hole locations
with a scribe or pen. Now remove the LPE air intake and drill holes in the metal of the vehicle.
When drilling, be careful that you do not drill into any sensors or harnesses. Secure the plastic
block-off plate to the car using the included plastic fasteners.
• NOTE - in some case, especially on Camaros, the LPE air intake may touch the sound deadening
material found on the underside of the hood - this is normal. If the intake is properly located and
positioned in the lter, your hood should close properly.
• On Firebirds - using the supplied hook and loop tape - mount the headlight door module to the
horizontal subframe area on top of and next to the block off plate. Leave the two pieces of hook and
loop tape fastened to each other. Remove the tape backing from one side and attach the tape along
one edge of the module. Test mount the module leaving the backing tape in place (the best t will
probably be to have the tape along the edge that is closest to the front of the car and the headlights)
and then remove the backing tape and mount the module.
• Now check inside the air lter to make sure no debris has fallen into the lter. If any material has
fallen into the lter, remove it by hand or with a vacuum cleaner.
• Reinstall the LPE plastic intake - slipping the MAF into the rubber elbow. Tighten the worm-gear
clamps over the air intake at either end (over the MAF and over the air lter). It may be easiest to
use the 5/16th socket to tighten the worm-gear clamp that is located on the lter. Reinstall the two
piece plastic fastener that secures the air intake to the radiator shroud. If the original fastener is
damaged, use one of the fasteners provided.
• Install the rubber A.I.R. pump hose on the LPE intake and tighten the plastic clamp to secure it in
place.
• Reconnect the three-wire lead to the MAF - making sure the wires have some slack.
• Start the vehicle and check to make sure everything is running properly. Close the hood and release
the parking brake.
