SUITABLE TYPES OF SUB FLOORS
AND FLOOR PREPARATION
INSTALLATION
Moisturearisingfromneworoldconcretecancreatehighlevelsof
moisturevaporemissions,hydrostaticpressure,andhighlevelsof
alkalinity.Thiscombinationishighlycorrosiveandwilldamagethe
oorovertime.Toavoidthisproblem,ensurethatconcretesuboors
areconstructedaccordingtotheAmericanConcreteInstitution’s
guidelines(ACI’s302.2Guide).Tocheckcurrentconditions,acalcium
chloridetest(ASTMF1869)andaRHtestusinginsituProbes(ASTM
F2170)isnecessary.Ifthelevelofvaporemissions/hydrostatic
pressureexceeds6lbsand/or90%RH,amoisturebarriermustbe
installedovertheconcreteoryoumustusemulti-useLVTadhesive
fortheinstall.
Note: New concrete needs to cure for at least 60 days before
installing ooring materials.
IfconsideringRadiantheat,onlyHydronicradiantheatcanbeused.
Theheatingcomponentsmusthaveaminimumof3/8”separation
fromtheproduct.Systemmustbeoperationalforaminimumof
twoweekspriortoinstallation.Fivedayspriortoinstallation,the
temperatureshouldbereducedto65

C).Afterinstallation,the
temperaturecanberaisedgradually(5

C).Anin-oorthermostatis
recommendedtoavoidoverheating.Atransitionstripmustbeused
foranyinstallationlongerthan40linearfeetand/orwiderthan30
linearfeet.ItisalsosuggestedtouseT-Moldingindoorways.
Thesuboormustbeat,dry,andclean.Carpetstaplesorany/all
adhesiveresiduemustberemovedandoormustbecleantoensure
properinstallation.If it is uncertain that the old adhesive residue
may cause issues, you should use an Adhesive Encapsulator.
Tocheckforatness,hammeranailintothecenteroftheoor.Tie
astringtothenailandpushtheknotagainsttheoor.Pullthestring
tighttothefarthestcorneroftheroomandexaminetheoorfor
anyhigh/lowsrelativetothestring.Suboormustbeatto1/8"
per6'(3mmper0.92meter).Anyareasinexcessoftheatness
specicationmustbesandeddownorlledwithanappropriate
leveler.
Thisproductcanbeinstalledovermostexistingoorsincluding
wood,non-cushionedvinylorlinoleum,andceramic/porcelaintile
iftheexistingooringisintactandproperlysecuredtothesuboor.
Ifinstallingoverceramic/porcelaintile,groutlinesinexcessof1/16"
(0.625)mustbelledwithaPortlandbasedskimcoat/oorleveler
accordingtothemanufacturer'sguidelines.
Warning: This product should not be installed over carpet.
Installation over carpet will void the warranty.Wheninstalledin
roomswithdirectsunlight,duringthepeakhoursofsunlight,theuse
ofblinds/shadesordrapesisrecommended.
Thisproductiswaterproofbutisnotamoisturebarrier. Theproduct
canwithstandtopicalwaterandwaterpenetrationforupto16hours
withoutbeingdamaged.However,waterleakingoveroraroundthe
outeredgesoftheooringcandamageawoodsub oorandbreed
mold/mildewgrowthonsuboorandwalls.Thisisnotconsidereda
defectintheooring.
• Usingasharputilityknifeandastraightedge,scorealineonthe
topsurfaceoftheplank.Theplankshouldsplitonthescoreline
withlittleeort.Usesawtocutplanktosize.Theplankshould
splitonthescorelinewithlittleeort.Usesawtocutplanktosize.
Note: the end pieces must be longer than 8". This may require
cutting a plank to start a row depending on the size of the room.
• Beginthenextrowwiththecutopiecefromthepreviousrow
tocreatethenecessarystaggerpattern.Thispieceshouldbea
minimumof8”(20cm)longandthejointosetfromtheprevious
rowshouldbeatleast10”(26cm)apart.Toattach,tilttheplankyou
areinstallingslightlyupwards(about15-25º),insertitstongueinto
thepreviousrow’sgrooveandloweritintoplace.Theplankwill
clickintoplacewithlightpressure(FigureE).
• Removethetongue(onthelongside)fromtherstrowofplanks.
Thiswillensurethatthedecorativesurfaceoftheooringisunder
thenishedtrimwheninstalled.Useautilityknifetoscorethrough
thetongueseveraltimesuntiliteasilysnapso(FigureA).
Note: The rst row of planks may need to be trimmed lengthwise
for a better t at the end of the installation. Measure the room and
divide by the width of the plank. If there is a remainder of less than
2”, the rst row will need to be trimmed by that amount.
• Startinginthelefthandcorner,placetherstplankwithits
trimmedsidetowardsthewall.Usespacersalongeachwallto
maintainanexpansiongapof1/4”(7-8mm)betweenthewalland
theooring(FigureB).
• Attachtheendsofthe1stplankandthesecondplankbylifting
the2ndplankandinsertingthetongueontheshortsideintothe
grooveoftherstplankandloweringitintoplace.Lineupedges
andcornerscarefully(FigureC).
• Continuealongthewalluntilyoureachthelastfullplank,
connectingeachplankinmannerdescribedabove.Totthelast
plank,turnplankover(facedown).Placetheplankinthecorner
sothetongueontheshortendtouchestheadjacentwall.Measure
overlapbetweentheinstalledplankandthelastplank
(FigureD1&D2).
