Installation Guide
GENERAL INSTALLATION METHOD
Carpet Cushion
Shall be installed with embossed air channels facing the subfloor, free of
buckles and wrinkles in the longest continuous lengths possible. Ensure
carpet cushion seams are placed at right angles to carpet seams. If
carpet and carpet cushion must run in same direction, seams must be
offset by at least 6" (150mm). Cushion edges shall be neatly butted
together and seams nailed, stapled or duct taped together.
For stretch-in carpet, cushion shall be installed up to the edge of the
tack strips and be securely fastened to the subfloor using staples or
tape at the seams and 25mm to 150mm (1" to 6") within the perimeter
edges all around the installation to prevent shifting.
Duct Tape
Use professional-grade duct tape to join cushion. Do not use masking
tape or aluminum tape. Apply duct tape to full length of the cushion
seams with 8" to 10" (200mm to 250mm) strips of tape placed on right
angles of the seam at 18" (460mm) intervals.
Stapling on Wood Subfloors
If you are using staples to secure the cushion, please limit them to as few as possible, and only around the perimeter of the room, as
close to the tack strip as possible (recommend every 12" (30.5cm) around the cushion perimeter).
Gluing to Subfloor
Lifeproof™ does not recommend the glue-down of residential carpet cushions as it may affect the integrity of the carpet cushion and
will void the warranty. Duct tape/carpet tape and staples are the accepted installation materials used for fastening carpet cushion to
the subfloor. Details on the specifics of each install method are outlined above.
Carpet Seaming
The carpet sealing iron must be kept at its lower heat setting and not exceed the temperature setting of 194°F/96°C to prevent
cushion damage.
Air Channels
must be facing

INSTALLATION GUIDE
Carpet and carpet cushion should be installed by installation professionals in accordance with manufacturer and/or
Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI) most current Installation Standards.
PREPARATION
All Substrates/Subfloors: The subfloor shall be inspected to determine the special care required to make it a suitable foundation
for the carpet cushion. Ensure all major protrusions or indentations are leveled or filled. Subfloors must
be clean, dry and free of any foreign substances that would prohibit proper installation of the carpet
cushion to the subfloor.
Subfloor Level Compounds: If patching the subfloor is required
,
the use of patching compound specifically designed for flooring
is recommended.
Temperature and Humidity: Installed in room temperatures, 24 hours prior to installation, between 65°F (18°C) and 95°F (35°C) and
a relative humidity below 65%.
Failure to comply with the Lifeproof Carpet Cushion Installation Guide may void the cushion warranty, relieving the manufacturer of any
liabilities or claims against the cushion performance.
