Gossip cards (x20)
These are goals
1
that the Ladies are given at the start of
the game. You must get rid of your Gossip cards before the
end of the game by giving them to the Ladies you are playing
against. Each Gossip card you hold at the end of the game
reduces your Elegance points score by 1

Setup:
During preparation, deal 3 Gossip cards to each Lady. They must be kept
secret. Remaining Gossip cards are replaced in the box.
Playing the game
During the game, at any time in any phase, Ladies may hand a Gossip card
to other Ladies as long as they adhere to the following conditions:
Each Lady may only hand out 1 Gossip card per turn. As you ‘offer’ a Gossip
card to another Lady, it is the done thing to accompany this action with a
gratuitous remark: “Darling, did you lend your dress to your Servant?”
etc. Players should make these up as they go along.
During the Evening phase, if her favourite Boutique has not been visited
by anybody, a Lady may discard a Gossip card from her hand (not one that
an opposing Lady has given her) instead of purchasing the Wardrobe or
Servant card in the window at half price.
At the end of the game, each Lady loses 1 Elegance point per Gossip card
that she has been given or kept in her hand (gossip comes back to you!)
Note : to understand the signifi cance of the different Gossip cards, read the
Game Help section.
Note : you can still play with Gossip cards even if there is an uneven number of
players. The Courtesan also receives 3 Gossip cards during the setup. The rules
do not change, and the Courtesan continues to play like the Ladies.
