INSTALLATION 11 Unpacking the Refrigerator kPa), you can install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure. WARNING • The refrigerator is heavy. Protect the floor when moving the refrigerator for cleaning or service. Always pull the refrigerator straight out when moving it. Do not wiggle or walk the refrigerator when trying to move it, as floor damage could occur. • Keep flammable materials and vapors, such as gasoline, away from the refrigerator.
INSTALLATION Dimensions and Clearances • Check the dimensions of the appliance and the installation path to ensure there is sufficient room to move the refrigerator through doors or narrow openings. • If an opening is too narrow to fit the refrigerator through, remove the refrigerator doors. See Removing/ Assembling Doors and Drawers in this manual.
INSTALLATION 13 • Tools Needed - Flat-head screwdriver - Phillips screwdriver ENGLISH - Adjustable wrench - 1/4 in. Hex socket wrench - 3/8 in. Hex socket wrench - 10 mm Hex socket wrench - 1/4 in. Hex Key Wrench Removing the Freezer Door 1 Gently pry off the top hinge cover a with a flat-head screwdriver and remove it. 2 Using 10 mm or 3/8 inch socket wrench, remove the three bolts and lift the top hinge b. Set parts aside.
INSTALLATION Assembling the Refrigerator Door 1 Set the refrigerator door on the bottom hinge pin a. • Type A 2 Lift up the refrigerator door slightly and remove it. Set the door aside on a nonscratching surface. • Type B • Type A • Type B 2 Place the middle hinge pin b inside the hinge pin sleeve c on the top of the refrigerator door. 3 Hold the door in place and line up the hinge with the holes in the refrigerator housing.
INSTALLATION 15 Removing the Freezer Door Gently pry off the top hinge cover a with a flat-head screwdriver and remove it. 2 Use 10 mm or 3/8 inch socket wrench, remove the three bolts and lift off the top hinge b. Set parts aside. 3 Lift freezer door slightly and remove it. 4 Turn the freezer door upside down on a nonscratching surface. Loosen the screw to remove the hinge lever and hinge pin sleeve. 5 Move the middle hinge bracket to the other side of the door, keeping the same orientation.
INSTALLATION 2 Slightly lift the refrigerator door and remove it. • Type A 7 8 Reverse the hinge lever e by flipping it over. Place it on top of the bracket and tighten both down with the screw. • Type B Set the freezer door to the side. Removing the Refrigerator Door 1 Using a 1/4 in. socket wrench, loosen and remove the middle hinge pin a from the middle hinge bracket b. Remove the washer c underneath the middle hinge and set the parts aside.
INSTALLATION 17 • Type B • Type A ENGLISH • Type B 5 Reattach the bottom hinge pin to the opposite side of the bottom hinge bracket. • Type A • Type B 6 Using a 3/8 in. socket wrench with a 2-inch extension, loosen the 2 bolts on the bottom hinge bracket. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw. CAUTION • Be careful that the refrigerator does not fall forward if the model purchased has the leveler attached to the bottom hinge bracket.
INSTALLATION 1 • Type B Move the bottom hinge bracket to the left side of the housing, keeping the same orientation, and reattach with the two bolts and one screw. • Type A • Type B NOTE • The leveler is only present on some models. NOTE 3 Move the decorative screws to the holes on the bottom right side of the housing. 4 Turn the refrigerator door upside down on a non-scratching surface. 5 Loosen the three screws to remove the bracket b and the hinge pin sleeve c .
INSTALLATION 19 Place the refrigerator door down over the bottom hinge pin on the bottom hinge bracket. 11 Place the washer i between the refrigerator door and the middle hinge bracket and reattach the middle hinge pin j to the middle hinge bracket with a 1/4 in. socket wrench. NOTE • The hinge lever is only present on some models. 7 With a flat-head screwdriver, carefully pry off and remove the decorative cover e over the screw holes on the left side of the refrigerator housing.
INSTALLATION 2 Place the freezer door down over the middle hinge pin on the middle hinge bracket. 3 Place the top hinge on top of the freezer door and line up the top hinge with the holes on top of the refrigerator. Use the three bolts to attach the hinge. To ensure a good seal, apply a small amount of silicon grease on the corners a of the gaskets. Leveling the Refrigerator The refrigerator has two front leveling legs. Adjust the legs to alter the tilt from front-to-back or sideto side.
INSTALLATION 21 Connecting Refrigerator to Water Supply These instructions assume you have an existing water supply connection for the refrigerator. If necessary, call a qualified plumber to install a water supply line for the refrigerator. • Turn the icemaker OFF if the refrigerator will be used before the water line is connected. • Do not install the icemaker tubing in areas where the ambient temperatures fall below freezing. WARNING • Connect to potable water supply only.
INSTALLATION are using PEX, the tubing may already have the required fittings at either end. Make sure the tubing is fully inserted into the valve. Tighten the compression nut securely. a Tubing Clamp b ¼ in. Tubing a Packing Nut c ¼ in. Compression Nut b Shutoff Valve d Ferrule (sleeve) c Compression Nut e Refrigerator Connection d Ferrule (sleeve) 2 Flush out the tubing into a bucket. • Flush out the tubing coming from the home water supply until the water is clear.
INSTALLATION 23 Start the Icemaker • If the water line is connected, set the icemaker power switch to the ON position. ENGLISH • The icemaker will not begin to operate until it reaches its operating temperature of 15 °F (–9 °C) or below. It will then begin operation automatically if the icemaker power switch is in the ON (I) position.
OPERATION OPERATION Before Use Checklist Clean the refrigerator. Clean the refrigerator thoroughly and wipe off all dust accumulated during shipping. CAUTION • Do not scratch the refrigerator with a sharp object or use a detergent that contains alcohol, a flammable liquid, or an abrasive when removing any tape or adhesive from the refrigerator. Remove adhesive residue by wiping it off with your thumb or dish detergent.
OPERATION 25 Control Panel Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available. Control Panel Features † This control panel is only available on some models. Control Panel 1: Inside the Refrigerator† a Water Lock† Press this button to disable the water dispenser. b Temperature Adjust Press this button repeatedly to select a desired setting between COLD and COLDER. • Initially set the Refrigerator Control on the middle setting (number 3).
OPERATION Control Panel 2: Inside the Freezer The freezer control should ship set to the middle setting (number 3). Wait 24 hours before adjusting the freezer compartment temperature. Roll the knob to set the freezer temperature as you desire. ALWAYS wait 24 hours after any adjustment to reach the desired temperature. NOTE • The higher the number on the freezer control, the colder the set temperature will be. Water Dispenser Using the Dispenser This feature is only available on some models.
OPERATION 27 The feature may vary depending on model purchased. • Throw away the first bin full of ice (about 140160 cubes) after installation. This is also necessary if the refrigerator has not been used for a long time. • The icemaker begins producing ice approximately 24 hours after the appliance is initially installed. • The sound of ice dropping into the ice bin is normal. • Ice cubes which are stored in the ice bin for a long time may clump together and be difficult to separate.

OPERATION 2 To assemble, slide the shelf into the guides until it stops. To Remove the Crisper Cover 1 Remove both crisper drawers. 2 Remove the crisper glass. 3 While holding the support and crisper cover, pull up and out. Pantry Drawer This feature is only available on some models. Removing/Assembling the Pantry Drawer 1 To remove, grasp the drawer handle and pull it forward to the drawer stop. Lift up and pull out. 2 To assemble, slide the drawer back all the way past the drawer stop.
OPERATION 31 2 To assemble the bin, slide it in above the desired support and push down until it snaps into place. 2 Twist the ice tray to remove the ice cubes. • Empty the bin before removing it. • Do not apply excessive force while detaching or assembling the storage bins. • Do not use the dishwasher to clean the storage bins and shelves. NOTE NOTE • Some bins may vary in appearance and will only fit in one location. • Do not bend the ice tray. Doing so may damage the tray.
SMART FUNCTIONS SMART FUNCTIONS LG ThinQ Application This feature is only available on models with the c or d logo. The LG ThinQ application allows you to communicate with the appliance using a smartphone. Installing the LG ThinQ Application Search for the LG ThinQ application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on a smartphone. Follow instructions to download and install the application.
MAINTENANCE 33 MAINTENANCE WARNING • Use non-flammable cleaner. Failure to do so can result in fire, explosion, or death. CAUTION • Do not use an abrasive cloth or sponge when cleaning the interior and exterior of the refrigerator. • Do not place your hand on the bottom surface of the refrigerator when opening and closing the doors. General Cleaning Tips • Both the refrigerator and freezer sections defrost automatically; however, clean both sections once a month to prevent odors.
MAINTENANCE WARNING • To reduce the risk associated with the ingestion of contaminants, do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. • To purchase a replacement water filter: - Visit your local dealer or distributor - Search using "water filter" on lg.
MAINTENANCE 35 ENGLISH 4 Push the water filter up into the filter receptacle and rotate it clockwise to lock it into place. Once installed correctly, you should not be able to rotate the filter clockwise any more. 5 After the water filter is replaced, dispense 2.5 gallons of water (flush for approximately 5 minutes) to remove trapped air and contaminants from the system. NOTE • Do not dispense the entire 2.5 gallon amount continuously.
MAINTENANCE Performance Data Sheet Model: GEN11042FR-08 NSF System Trade Name Code: GEN11042F-08 This system has been tested according to NSF/ANSI 42 for the reduction of the substances listed below. The concentration of the indicated substances in water entering the system was reduced to a concentration less than or equal to the permissible limit for water leaving the system, as specified in NSF/ ANSI 42.
TROUBLESHOOTING 37 TROUBLESHOOTING Frequently Asked Questions Q: What are the best temperature settings for my refrigerator and freezer? A: The default setting for the refrigerator is the middle setting on the control (number 3). The default setting for the freezer is the middle setting on the control (number 3). Adjust these settings as necessary to keep food at desired temperatures. Milk should be cold when stored on the inner shelf of the refrigerator.
TROUBLESHOOTING Before Calling for Service Review this section before calling for service; doing so will save you both time and money. Cooling Problem Refrigerator is not cooling or has no power. Possible Cause & Solution The refrigerator control is set to OFF (some models). • Turn the control ON. Refer to the Setting the Controls section for proper temperature settings. Refrigerator is set to Demo Mode (some models).
TROUBLESHOOTING 39 Problem Interior moisture buildup. Possible Cause & Solution Weather is humid. Defrost cycle recently completed. • During the defrost cycle, the temperature of each compartment may rise slightly and condensation may form on the back wall. Wait 30 minutes and confirm that the proper temperature has been restored once the defrost cycle has completed. Food is not packaged correctly.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Possible Cause & Solution Refrigerator or Freezer section is too warm. The air vents are blocked. Cold air circulates from the freezer to the fresh food section and back again through air vents in the wall dividing the two sections. • Locate air vents by using your hand to sense airflow and move all packages that block vents and restrict airflow. Rearrange items to allow air to flow throughout the compartment. Doors are opened often or for long periods of time.
TROUBLESHOOTING 41 Problem Ice has bad taste or odor. Possible Cause & Solution The interior of the refrigerator needs to be cleaned. • See the Maintenance section for more information. • Empty and wash the bin (discard old cubes). Make sure that the bin is completely dry before reinstalling it. Water Problem Water is dispensing slowly. Possible Cause & Solution Water filter has been exhausted. • Replacing the water filter is recommended: - Approximately every six months.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Dispensing warm water. Possible Cause & Solution Refrigerator was recently installed. • Allow 24 hours after installation for the water storage tank to cool completely. The water dispenser has been used recently and the storage tank was exhausted. • Depending on your specific model, the water storage capacity will range from approximately 20 to 30 oz. Dispenser has not been used for several hours.
TROUBLESHOOTING 43 Problem Refrigerator wobbles or seems unstable Possible Cause & Solution Leveling legs are not adjusted properly. • Refer to the Leveling section. • It may be necessary to add shims under the leveling legs or rollers to complete installation. Lights do not work. LED interior lighting failure. • The refrigerator compartment lamp is LED interior lighting, and service should be performed by a qualified technician. The interior of the refrigerator is covered with dust or soot.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Pulsating or highpitched sound Possible Cause & Solution Your refrigerator is designed to run more efficiently to keep your food items at the desired temperature. The high efficiency compressor may cause your new refrigerator to run longer than your old one, but it is still more energy efficient than previous models. While the refrigerator is running, it is normal to hear a pulsating or highpitched sound.
