3D TECHNOLOGY EXPLAINED
WHAT IS 3D?
3D technology is filmed using two separate images with
two standard definition cameras. They act like a pair of
eyes, focusing on the left and right angle of the image.
The images from both cameras are edited and converted
into a three dimensional image. LG offers two types of
3D technology:
1. PASSIVE
This is similar to what you would experience in the cinema
whilst watching a 3D movie. They use polarised glasses to
display a different image to each eye by only letting in the
correct image intended for the left and right eye.
2. ACTIVE
Active TV sets use special LCD shutter glasses which are
activated by the emitter built inside the TV. The glasses
house much of the 3D technology in the glasses themselves
and therefore make them significantly more expensive.
WHAT CAN I VIEW IN 3D?
Currently there is a limited amount of 3D content available
but that is all set to change. Sky will launch a dedicated
3D channel in autumn 2010 to bring more fantastic
3D viewing to enhance your home entertaiment
viewing experience.
Committed to making 3D accessible to everyone, LG is
working with sky to bring live sporting events in 3D to
hundreds of thousands of people every week. This year
over 1500 pubs have been kitted out with LG 3D TVs.
Visit 3d.sky.com/pubfinder to find the nearest pub.
3D Video Games, Blu-ray and live 3D broadcasts from
Sky will be sure to give a wide variety of 3D entertainment
which can be enjoyed in your home.
WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF 3D?
3D technology has actually been around a long time but
has recently come to life as the film; gaming and
broadcast industry has started to create amazing
blockbuster 3D hits.
When Avatar 3D launched in autumn 2009 cinemas
throughout the world were selling out as the box office hit
record numbers. Sky have also been broadcasting live
3D sports to allow you to experience the stunning impact
of 3D TV.
3D is definitely here to stay and it will roll across new
exciting products to deliver an enhanced home
entertainment experience.
