Use only one of the connections described in this manual.
Connecting 15 ,,Note HDMI Connection If you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connect it to this unit using a HDMI cable (Type A, High Speed HDMI™ Cable). Connect the HDMI jack on the unit to the HDMI jack on a HDMI compatible TV or monitor. yy If a connected HDMI device does not accept the audio output of the unit, the HDMI device’s audio sound may be distorted or may not output. yy When you use HDMI connection, you can change the resolution for the HDMI output.
Connecting Video/Audio (Left/Right) Connection Resolution Setting Connect the VIDEO OUT jack on the unit to the video in jack on the TV using the video cable supplied. Connect the Left and Right AUDIO OUT jacks on the unit to the audio left/right in jacks on the TV using the supplied audio cables. The player provides several output resolutions for HDMI OUT jacks. You can change the resolution using [Setting] menu. 1. Press HOME (n). 2. Use a/d to select the [Setting] and press ENTER (b).

Connecting USB device connection This unit can play movie, music and photo files contained on a USB device. Playback content in the USB device 2 1. System Setting Auto Set Up You can reset the recorder to all its factory settings. The [Auto Set up] menu appears on the screen after the factory settings. 21 Step 5. Auto Tuning 1. System Setting Home Menu Overview Settings To access numerous functions of the unit, press HOME (n) on the remote. Adjust the Setup Settings Basic button operations You can change the settings of the player in the [Settings] menu. HOME (n): Accesses or removes the Home Menu. 1. System Setting Auto Tuning (Terrestrial Antenna Setting) Scanning programmes manually (Manual Tuning) All available digital TV or radio programmes are searched for and stored automatically based on the selected country. Scans digital TV or radio programmes and adds the detected programmes to the programme list. 1. Press HOME (n). 2. Use w/s to select [DTV], and press ENTER (b). 2. System Setting 25 Editing Programme List (Channel Edit) Lock System 3. Use w/s/a/d to select [Channel Edit] and press ENTER (b). Allows you to set up specific programs and ratings through blocking schemes. Also allows you to activate or disable all of the lock schemes previously set up. A password is required to gain access to the lock menu options. When the Lock System is set to [OFF], the Block Programme and Parental Guidance are not effective.
System Setting Setting the Parental Guidance Setting the Timeshift 1. Display [Lock System] menu. You can set the Time Shift function automatically without pressing TIME SHIFT button. The timeshift will start after Digital TV tuner mode is started. 2. Use w/s to select [Parental Guidance] and press ENTER (b). 1. Display [Settings] menu. 2. System Setting 27 [PICTURE] Menu Resolution Aspect Ratio Set the output resolution of the HDMI video signal. Refer to page 16 for details about the resolution setting. Select a TV aspect ratio option according to your TV type. [Auto] Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. Displays theatrical images with masking bars above and below the picture.
System Setting [SOUND] Menu Each disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the unit’s Audio options according to the type of audio system you use. [192 kHz] Digital Audio Out [96 kHz] Select the output sound format when a device equipped with a HDMI or Digital Audio input jack is connected to the HDMI OUT or OPTICAL (DIGITAL AUDIO OUT) jack on this unit. Select this if your A/V Receiver or Amplifier is not capable of handling 192 kHz signals.
System Setting 29 [DTV] Menu Default Recording Device Auto Tuning This option sets the storage where your TV recording will be stored. This option scans a programme and sets the available programmes. Refer to pages 23-24 for more information. Manual Tuning Scans digital TV or radio programmes and adds the found programmes to the programme list. Refer to page 24 for more information. 1. Display [Setting] menu. 2. Use w/s to select [DTV], and press ENTER (b). 3.
System Setting [LOCK] Menu Parental Guidance To access any features in the [LOCK] settings, you must enter the 4-digit security code you have created. If you have not entered a password yet, you are prompted to do so. Enter a 4-digit password twice, and press ENTER (b) to create a new password. Viewing of some digital TV programmes can be limited according to the age limit you set. (See “Setting the Parental Guidance” on page 26.) Set Password You can create, or change the password.
System Setting [OPTION] Menu Language(Language) Select a language for the [Setting] menu and onscreen display. Use w/s/a/d to select a Menu Language, Audio Language, Audio Language, Subtitle language, Text Language for the on-screen display, and press ENTER (b). 31 5. Press a/d to select a value then press ENTER (b) (GMT-1 ~ GMT-11, GMT ~ GMT+12). ,,Note yy There are cases where the TV station does not send, or sends wrong date and/or time information and the recorder sets the incorrect time.
System Setting ,,Note All the downloaded videos from DivX VOD with this player’s registration code can only be played back on this unit. Auto Off The screen saver appears when you leave the unit in Stop mode for about five minutes. If you set this option to [On], the unit automatically turns itself off after the Screen Saver is displayed for 20 minutes. Set this option to [Off ] to leave the screen saver until the unit is operated by the user.
System Setting 33 [DISC] Menu Format If you want to copy a disc, use only the disc which is formatted on this unit. If you load a completely blank disc, the recorder will initialize the disc. Also, you can reformat the DVD-RW/DVD+RW from the Setting menu as below. 1. Display [Setting] menu. 3. Select [OK] then press ENTER (b). The recorder starts finalizing the disc. ,,Note yy How long finalization takes depends on the type of disc, how much is recorded on the disc, and the number of titles on the disc.
Operating Using the Digital TV functions 2. Use w/s to select a desired programme, and press ENTER (b). If you press green (G) coloured button repeatedly, the unit sort the programmes into channel number, ABC, FTA~CAS or CAS~FTA. You can watch and record the digital TV programmes or playback the recorded TV programmes you want to watch using this unit. 3. Press BACK (1) to exit from the channel list. Viewing the Digital TV This option allows you to set the favourite channel.
Operating 35 Viewing the programme information You can view a description of the programme being broadcast. Selecting Audio Description Audio description for users who are visually handicapped. 1. While watching DTV, press Q.MENU. 2. Use a/d to select the [Audio description] option. 1. While watching DTV, press INFO/MENU (m) to display the programme information. 2. Press INFO/MENU (m) again to close the programme information.
Operating Changing Aspect Ratio You can change the TV aspect ratio setting while playback. 1. While watching DTV, press Q.MENU. 2. Use a/d to select the [Aspect Ratio] option. Programme Guide (Digital program only) The Program Guide contains schedule and program information for digital programs. They also provide local over-the-air programs information including conventional digital programs.
Operating To change date When the Program Guide with 8 days is displayed, you can also change the date of the Program Guide by pressing the green (G) coloured button, you can set the time +24H. On the contrary, by pressing the red (R) coloured button, you can set the time -24H. After setting favourite channels from the CH list, you can use the FAV button to toggle between [All] and [A~D] channel list.
Operating Using the teletext (Viewing Teletext) Many Digital TV programmes broadcast information via their text service, and this recorder has access to dedicated text programmes transmitted by the broadcasters. Recording TV programmes You can watch another channel while recording a channel or record up to two different programmes simultaneously in the built-in HDD and playback the recorded programmes. Dual Programme Recording You can record two Digital TV programme at the same time. 1.
Operating 39 Stop Recording You can stop recording instantly in Live TV. 4. Enter the necessary information for your timer recording(s). 1. Press Z (STOP) then stop dialogue is displayed. 2. Use a/d to select [Yes] and press ENTER (b) to stop recording. ,,Note To stop recording, you must move to the programme being recorded before pressing Z (STOP). Timer Recording (Manual) You can set the timer for a total of 30 programmes, up to 22-28 days in advance. 1. While watching TV, press TIMER REC..
Operating Timer Recording (Programme Guide) You can also set the timer based on the information provided by the programme guide. 1. While watching TV, press GUIDE. 8. Operating 41 Modify a timer recording You can modify a pre-scheduled timer recording before the timer recording actually starts. 1. While watching TV, press TIMER REC.. 2. Press the bule (B) coloured button. 4. Use a/d to select [Record] and press ENTER (b). If you select [Advanced Schedule] and press ENTER (b) to follow the steps 3-5 from “Timer Recording (Manual)” on page 39 to complete the editing. 3. Operating Instant Timer Recording You can set the recording time instantly to stop the recording automatically. Recording from Video/Audio Input 1. Use CH (W/S) to select a programme you want to record. You can record from an external composite, such as a camcorder, connected to any of the unit’s external inputs. 2. Press REC. (X) to start recording. Press ENTER (b) to display the progress of recording. 1. Make sure that the component you want to record from is connected properly to the unit.

Operating Using the disc menu DVD AVCHD To display the disc menu The menu screen may be displayed first after loading a disc which contains a menu. If you want to display the disc menu during playback, press DISC MENU. Playing the recorded titles REC 1. While watching TV, press REC.LIST to display the options menu or use w/s/a/d to select [Recorded TV] on the HOME menu and press ENTER (b). Use w/s/a/d buttons to navigate through menu items.
Operating 45 Sorting the recorded titles REC 1. While watching TV, press REC.LIST to display the [Recorded TV] or use w/s/a/d to select [Recorded TV] on the HOME menu and press ENTER (b). 2. Press yellow (Y) coloured button repeatedly to sorted by recorded time in recent order or title name in alphabetical order. [ABC] – by title name in alphabetical order. [Recent] – sorted by recorded date. ,,Note In case of [ABC] sort, the extended character like tilde can sort incorrectly.
Operating Playing movie file and VR discs Playing a file on Linked Devies You can play DVD-RW discs that are recorded in Video Recording (VR) format and movie files contained on a disc/HDD/USB device. This unit can play video, audio and photo files contained in the USB device. 1. Press HOME (n). 1. Insert a USB device into the USB port until it fits into place. 2. Press HOME (n). 3. Select [Movie], [Photo] or [Music] using a/d, and press ENTER (b). 2. Select [Movie] using a/d, and press ENTER (b).
Operating 47 To control movie playback To control music playback You can control playback and set options while watching videos. Controls play and sets options while listening to a music. Operating To resume playback (Movie files) The unit records the point where you stopped during playback. When you play the file again on the list, the option will be appeared on the file. To resume the playback, Select [YES] and press ENTER (b). Basic operations for photo content To play a slide show Press [Slide Show d] on the Photo view screen. To stop a slide show Press [Slide Show Z] on the Photo view screen.
Operating 49 Listening to music while slide show Options while watching a video (Movie) You can display photo files while listening to audio files. You can check and adjust a subtitle information of the video file on playing. 1. While viewing a photo in full screen, press INFO/ MENU (m) to display the option menu. 1. Operating Advanced Playback Viewing content information Repeat Playback The unit can display the content information on the list. DVD AVCHD ACD MUSIC During playback, press REPEAT (h) repeatedly to select a desired repeat mode. DVDs Off – Returns to normal playback. Chapter – The current chapter will be played back repeatedly. Title – The current title will be played back repeatedly. Audio CDs/Music files Track – The current track or file will be played back repeatedly.
Operating On-Screen display Playing from selected time You can display and adjust various information and settings concerning the content. 1. Press INFO/MENU (m) during playback. The time search box shows the elapsed playing time. Displaying content information on-screen DVD AVCHD 1. During playback, press INFO/MENU (m) to show various playback information. DVD 51 AVCHD 2. Select the [Time] option and then input the required start time in hours, minutes, and seconds from left to right.
Operating Selecting a subtitle language DVD AVCHD 1. During playback, press INFO/MENU (m) to display the On-Screen display. Using the Recording title Copy 2. Use w/s to select the [Subtitle] option. You can copy recording title from to the other storage device. 3. Use a/d to select the desired subtitle language. Preparations: 4. Press BACK (1) to exit the On-Screen display. ,,Note yy Some discs allow you to change subtitle selections only via the disc menu.
Operating 53 After completing copy to DVD, you can see the copy list. 7. Press green (G) colored button to display the [Device Selection] menu. 8. Use w/s to select [ DISC], [ HDD] or [ USB] and press ENTER (b) for target device. 9. (Disc only) Use w/s to select a desired Rec Mode Set [XP, SP, LP or EP] and press ENTER (b). [XP] – Highest quality setting, gives about 1 hour of recording time on a DVD (4.7 GB).
Troubleshooting Troubleshooting General Symptom Cause & Solution The Power does not turn on. yy Plug the power cord into the wall outlet securely. The unit does not start playback. yy Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type, color system, and regional code.) yy Place the disc with the playback side down. yy Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the guide. yy Clean the disc. yy Cancel the Rating function or change the rating level. The angle cannot be changed.
Troubleshooting 55 Playback Symptom Cause & Solution Cannot play a disc recorded using this unit on other unit. yy Finalize the disc. (see page 33) yy Check the disc compatibility of the player. yy Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the guide. yy Discs recorded with copy-once material cannot be played on other players. The subtitle language cannot be changed or turned off. yy Subtitles are not recorded on the DVD Video being played.
Troubleshooting HDMI Symptom Cause & Solution The connected HDMI device does not display any picture. yy Try disconnecting then reconnecting the HDMI cable. yy Try switching the power of the HDMI device off then back on. yy The video input of the connected device is set correctly for this unit. yy The HDMI cable you are using is fully HDMI-compliant. Using a nonstandard cable may result in no picture being output. yy Not all HDCP-compatible DVI devices will work with this unit.
Appendix Controlling a TV with the Supplied Remote Control You can control your TV using the buttons below. Setting up the remote to control your TV You can operate your TV with the supplied remote control. If your TV is listed in the table below, set the appropriate manufacturer code. 1. While holding down 1 (TV POWER) button, press the manufacturer code for your TV with the numerical buttons (see the table below).

Appendix Maintenance Notes on Discs Handling Discs Do not touch the playback side of the disc. Hold the disc by the edges so that fingerprints do not get on the surface. Never stick paper or tape on the disc. Storing Discs After playing, store the disc in its case. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or sources of heat and never leave it in a parked car exposed to direct sunlight. Cleaning Discs Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause poor picture quality and sound distortion.
Appendix 63 About the internal hard disk drive The internal hard disk drive (HDD) is a fragile piece of equipment. Please use the unit following the guidelines below to protect against possible HDD failure. yy Do not move the unit while it is on. yy Install and use a unit on a stable, levelled surface. yy Do not use the player in excessively hot or humid places, or in places that may be subject to sudden changes in temperature. Sudden changes in temperature can cause condensation to form inside the player.
