2 INSTALLATION INSTALLATION Installation Overview Please read the following installation instructions first after purchasing this product or transporting it to another location. INSTALLATION 13 Unpacking the Refrigerator Water ••Use two or more people to move and install the refrigerator. Failure to do so can result in back injury or other injury. Water supply must be easily connected for the automatic icemaker. ••The refrigerator is heavy. Protect the floor when moving the refrigerator for cleaning or service. Always pull the refrigerator straight out when moving it. Do not wiggle or walk the refrigerator when trying to move it, as floor damage could occur.
14 INSTALLATION Dimensions and Clearances ••Check the dimensions of the appliance and the installation path to ensure there is sufficient room to move the refrigerator through doors or narrow openings. ••If an opening is too narrow to fit the refrigerator through, the doors must be removed. The right door can only be removed by authorized LG service personnel. Call an LG Customer Information Center and arrange for service personnel to be present at the time of installation, if necessary.
INSTALLATION 15 Removing/Assembling the Doors Remove the screw (1) from the hinge cover at the top of the refrigerator. Lift the hook (not visible), located at the bottom of the front side of the cover (2) with a flat-head screwdriver. 3 Remove the cover and pull out the water supply tube (1). Disconnect all wire harnesses (2) . 4 Rotate the hinge lever counterclockwise (1). Lift the top hinge (2) free of the hinge lever latch.
16 INSTALLATION 5 Lift the door from the middle hinge pin and remove the door. Removing the Right Refrigerator Door The right refrigerator door must be removed by authorized LG service personnel only. Call an LG Customer Information Center and arrange for service, if necessary. CAUTION ••Place the door, inside facing up, on a nonscratching surface.
INSTALLATION 17 Removing the Freezer Doors Assembling the Freezer Doors 1 1 Remove the two hinge bolts. Lower the door onto the lower hinge pin. ENGLISH Lower hinge 2 Rotate the hinge out of the way so that the door can be lifted off. 2 Position the middle hinge pin in place to hold the door and insert the two hinge bolts. 3 Remove the door by raising it from the lower hinge. 3 Tighten the two hinge bolts.
18 INSTALLATION Assembling the Left Refrigerator Door 5 Install the left refrigerator door after the right door is installed. 1 Hold the water supply connection and gently push in the collet to connect the water supply line as shown in (1). Insert the tube at least 5/8 inch (15 mm) into the connector. Make sure that the plastic sleeve is inserted in the bottom of the door. Install the refrigerator door onto the middle hinge.
INSTALLATION 19 Connecting the Water Line Before Beginning If necessary, call a qualified plumber to correct water hammer before installing the water supply line to the refrigerator. Water banging in the pipes, or water hammer in residential plumbing can cause damage to refrigerator parts and lead to water leakage or flooding. ••Turn the icemaker OFF if the refrigerator will be used before the water line is connected.
20 INSTALLATION ••Shutoff valve to connect to the cold water line. The shutoff valve should have a water inlet with a minimum inside diameter of 5/32 in. at the point of connection to the COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type shutoff valves are included in many water supply kits. Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-type valve complies with your local plumbing codes. NOTE ••A self-piercing saddle type water valve should not be used.
INSTALLATION 21 6 NOTE ••Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing (about 8 ft. coiled into three turns of about 10 in. diameter) to allow the refrigerator to move out from the wall after installation. 7 Connect the tubing to the valve. Place the compression nut and ferrule (sleeve) for copper tubing onto the end of the tubing and connect it to the shutoff valve. Make sure the tubing is fully inserted into the valve. Tighten the compression nut securely.
22 INSTALLATION Turning on the Power Leveling and Door Alignment ••After installing, plug the refrigerator’s power cord into a 3-prong grounded outlet and push the refrigerator into the final position. Leveling The refrigerator has two front leveling legs. Adjust the legs to alter the tilt from front-to-back or side-to side.
INSTALLATION 23 Door Alignment Freezer Door Alignment ••Method 1 is recommended. ••For freezer doors, use wrench (2). ENGLISH Leveling the doors may not be possible when the floor is not level, or is of weak or poor construction. The refrigerator is heavy and should be installed on a rigid and solid surface. Some wood flooring may cause leveling difficulties if it flexes excessively.
24 INSTALLATION Method 2 ••Only allows a maximum of 3mm of adjustment. 1 Use the wider side of the number (2) wrench to unscrew the locking nut. Unscrew nut 2 Use the narrower side of the wrench to turn the adjustment hinge pin clockwise or counterclockwise, and adjust the gap difference between the refrigerator and the freezer door. Locking nut Adjustment hinge pin Lower door Raise door 3 After the door heights are adjusted, completely tighten the locking nut by turning it counterclockwise.
OPERATION 25 OPERATION Clean the refrigerator. Clean the refrigerator thoroughly and wipe off all dust that accumulated during shipping. CAUTION ••Do not scratch the refrigerator with a sharp object or use a detergent that contains alcohol, a flammable liquid or an abrasive when removing any tape or adhesive from the refrigerator. Remove adhesive residue by wiping it off with your thumb or dish detergent.
26 OPERATION Control Panel Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available. Control Panel Features 5 7 8 9 10 NOTE ••When the refrigerator is in the Power Saving Mode, the display remains off until a door is opened or a button is pressed. Once on, the display remains on for 20 seconds. 1 Ice Plus This function increases both ice making and freezing capabilities. ••Press the Ice Plus button to illuminate the icon and activate the function for 24 hours.
OPERATION 27 6 Refrigerator Temperature Indicates the set temperature of the refrigerator compartment in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). The default refrigerator temperature is 37 °F (3 °C). Press the Refrigerator button repeatedly to select a new set temperature from 33 °F to 46 °F (1 °C to 8 °C). 7 Fresh Air Filter The Fresh Air Filter helps remove odors from the refrigerator. The Fresh Air Filter has two settings, Auto and Power.
28 OPERATION Smart InstaView Display Touch the Smart InstaView display once to wake it up and display weather information. Touch the Smart InstaView display again to display the last application used. Touch the applications button ( ) at the bottom left of the display to view all applications. NOTE • The Smart InstaView display turns on: - when the power is turned on, - when the screen is touched, and - when a fridge compartment door or the door-indoor is opened.
OPERATION 29 Applications ENGLISH 1 Smart InstaView 7 See inside the fridge without opening the fridge door. Create labels and expiration dates for food items. 2 LG Alexa Search the internet for recipes or other information. 8 Ask LG Alexa questions. (“Alexa, how is the weather today?”) 3 Panorama View Check the shelves and door bins without opening the fridge. 4 Shopping List Create and manage shopping lists. Check your shopping lists remotely with the SmartThinQ application.
30 OPERATION Smart InstaView Select the Smart InstaView application and touch the screen to bring up the smart label menu. The smart label menu includes features that are useful for food management. Use these features to set a kitchen timer, label food items, or input the expiration date for each item so the refrigerator can remind you when foods are near expiration. 1 Shows all applications. 2 Turns the LED lamp on or off, switching the glass from clear to frosted.
OPERATION 31 Refrigerator Manager Refrigerator Temperature Indicates the set temperature of the refrigerator compartment in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). The default refrigerator temperature is 37 °F (3 °C). Press the – or + button to select a new set temperature from 33 °F to 46 °F (1 °C to 8 °C). 2 Freezer Temperature Indicates the set temperature of the freezer compartment in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). The default freezer temperature is 0 °F (-18 °C).
32 OPERATION 5 Door Alarm A chime sounds if the refrigerator door is left open. Press the Door Alarm button to turn the chime on or off. 6 Unit Press the Unit button to change the temperature mode from °F to °C (or vice versa) . The temperature indicator on the display window switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit. 7 Fresh Air Filter Reset Replace the air filter when the Fresh Air Filter Reset icon turns on. After replacing, press the Reset button.
OPERATION 33 Panorama View • Touch an image to bring up the smart label functions (stickers, memos, timers and expiration dates). NOTE • When viewing the inside of the refrigerator compartment remotely on your smartphone, the image quality may be slightly lower. • If you open the refrigerator door and close it immediately, the image may not be captured properly.
34 OPERATION LG Alexa LG Alexa is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, and providing weather and other real-time information. ••Launch the LG Alexa app and speak your request clearly. ••If you are running an application other than LG Alexa, or if the screen is in sleep mode, say "Alexa“ to wake it up.
OPERATION 35 Settings Display & Volume Set the screen brightness and volume. 2 Wi-Fi Connect the appliance to Wi-Fi. Change detailed settings on the refrigerator. 3 Date & Time Set the correct date and time for your location. 4 Region Set the region where the appliance is installed. 5 Alerts Set timer notifications and food expiration date notifications. 6 My Account Register the product to an LG account to use the LG SmartThinQ application.
36 OPERATION Ice and Water Dispenser CAUTION ••Keep children away from the dispenser. Children may play with or damage the controls. ••Throw away the first few batches of ice (about 24 cubes) after installation. This is also necessary if the refrigerator has not been used for a long time. ••If ice or water dispenses unexpectedly, turn off the water supply and contact an LG Electronics Customer Information Center. ••Never use a glass that is exceptionally narrow or deep.
OPERATION 37 Locking the Dispenser The control panel functions are disabled on both the control panel and the Smart InstaView display. Cleaning the Dispenser Drip Tray 1 Pull the tray forward until it stops. 2 Place hands underneath the tray and gently pull the tray forward to pop it off the support. 3 The dispenser tray and support can easily become wet or dirty. Remove the tray periodically and clean it and the support with a damp dishcloth.
38 OPERATION Ice Compartment Detaching the In-Door Ice Bin Keep the ice compartment door closed tightly. If the ice compartment door is not closed tightly, the cold air in the ice bin will freeze food in the refrigerator compartment. This could also cause the icemaker to stop producing ice. 1 Gently pull the handle to open the ice compartment. 2 To remove the in-door ice bin, grip the front handle, slightly lift the lower part, and slowly pull out the bin as shown.
OPERATION 39 Automatic Icemaker Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available. Turning the Automatic Icemaker On or Off Normal Sounds You May Hear Auto shutoff (feeler arm) NOTE ••Ice is made in the automatic icemaker and sent to the dispenser. The icemaker produces 50 - 80 cubes in a 24-hour period, depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other operating conditions.
40 OPERATION Storing Food Where to Store Food Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available. Each compartment inside the refrigerator is designed to store different types of food. Store food in the optimal space to enjoy the freshest taste. 1 7 2 8 3 9 4 5 6 1 Adjustable Refrigerator Shelf Adjustable shelves to meet individual storage needs. 2 Refrigerator Bin Store beverages, water, etc. 3 Big Fresh Zone Preserve vegetables and fruits.
OPERATION 41 CAUTION ••Do not store glass containers in the freezer. Contents may expand when frozen, break the container and cause injury. ••The temperature inside the EasyReach™ is slightly lower than in the shelf or door bin area. NOTE - If you are leaving home for a short period, like a short vacation, the refrigerator should be left on. Refrigerated foods that are able to be frozen will stay preserved longer if stored in the freezer.
42 OPERATION Storing Frozen Food Do not use Check a freezer guide or a reliable cookbook for further information about preparing food for freezing or food storage times. ••Bread wrappers Freezing ••Wax paper or wax-coated freezer wrap Your freezer will not quick-freeze a large quantity of food. Do not put more unfrozen food into the freezer than will freeze within 24 hours (no more than 2 to 3 pounds of food per cubic foot of freezer space).
OPERATION 43 Removing/Assembling the Fresh Zone Compartment 1 Removing the Fresh Zone Compartment 2 Slightly tilt up the front of the drawer and insert the rollers on the sides into the guides. 1 Open both refrigerator doors completely and empty and remove the Door-in-Door case and bins. Empty contents from glass cover and drawers. 2 Lift the front of one drawer to remove it from its guides and pull straight out. Repeat to remove the second drawer.
44 OPERATION Assembling the Fresh Zone Compartment 1 Hold the cover at a 45-degree angle and insert it into the refrigerator. EasyReach™ The EasyReach™ compartments are slightly cooler than the shelf or door bin areas. They are a convenient place to store dairy snacks or other small items you want to keep especially cold. They are also a handy place to defrost meat. Open and close by pulling the handle. To clean the EasyReach™ compartments, open the cover, empty the bin, and lift out the bottom tray.
OPERATION 45 Door-in-Door Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available. To access the Door-in-Door compartment, lift the lever under the right side door. The compartment opens with a click. • The Door-in-Door compartment allows you more room to store food. • With the increased storage space, you can also organize drinks and snacks better. Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available.
46 OPERATION 4 Move the EasyLift bin up to remove it. Lift the lower door bin from the bottom to remove it. EasyLift Bin Depending on the model, some of the following functions may not be available. Move the EasyLift bin up and down easily and conveniently as necessary. Remove the contents of the bin before raising or lowering it. ••To raise the bin, hold the center of the bin and lift. ••To lower the bin, press the side levers up at the same time and move the bin down until it clicks into place.
OPERATION 47 Assembling the Freezer Drawer The sliding freezer drawers allow easy access and convenience of use. 1 Open both freezer doors completely. Raise the front of the drawer slightly and insert the rollers on the drawer's sides into the guides in the freezer compartment. 2 Gently push the drawer in while lowering it into place. Use the upper compartments to store packaged frozen foods and frequently-used foods.
48 OPERATION Door Bins Store small packaged frozen food in the freezer door bins, or small packaged refrigerated food or beverages in the refrigerator door bins, such as milk, water, juice, beer, etc. Do not store ice cream or foods intended for longterm storage in the freezer door bins. The door bins are removable for easy cleaning and adjustment. 1 2 To remove the door bins, hold the bin with both hands and lift up to remove it.
OPERATION 49 CAUTION Door Mullion ENGLISH ••Make sure that shelves are level from one side to the other. Failure to do so may result in the shelf falling or spilled food. ••Do not clean glass shelves with warm water while they are cold. Shelves may break if exposed to sudden temperature changes or impact. ••Glass shelves are heavy. Use special care when removing them.
