PROPER INSERTION OF PLUGS IN TAMPER RESISTANT RECEPTACLES
Tamper resistant receptacles are manufactured with a shutter mechanism that is
designed to block access to the electrical contacts unless a normal two or three-prong
plug is evenly inserted into the outlet. This shutter mechanism is an important safety
feature that helps reduce the shock or electrocution of persons (primarily young
children) that attempt to insert foreign objects into receptacles. Receptacles with a
shutter mechanism may require slightly more force and distance to fully insert plug
blades in order to provide power to the cord and its attached product. When using
tamper resistant receptacles, please be certain that the plug is fully inserted into
the receptacle to ensure a proper and safe connection.
