1 Introduction Congratulations! You have purchased a Leupold® GX™ Series digital laser rangefinder that has been crafted by Leupold’s engineers and designers to be the best rangefinder on the market, and to provide you with years of solid performance on the course. Following are instructions detailing the proper use and employment of your GX Series rangefinder. To ensure top performance for the life of the product, please read these instructions before operating your GX-I or GX-II.

Accuracy The ranging accuracy of the GX series of rangefinders is +/- one yard/meter. The maximum effective range depends upon a number of factors including lighting conditions and air quality, but the most important factor is the reflectivity of the target. For most objects, the maximum distance is 600 yards, while for highly reflective targets, distances of 750 yards can be obtained.
5 How it Works The Leupold GX series of rangefinders emit a series of invisible, infrared energy pulses that are reflected off the selected target back to the optical unit. Stateof-the-art circuitry and precision computing circuits are used to calculate the distance instantaneously by measuring the time it takes for each pulse to travel from the GX rangefinder to the object and back.
Specification The GX Series of digital laser rangefinders provides a variety of useful modes to tailor performance to the conditions you experience in the field. Model features are identified on the following pages.

GX™-I & GX™-II Power Focus -/+ GX-I Mode Battery The GX-I and GX-II have two buttons: POWER and MODE. When you initially push the POWER button, the display is activated and the unit it ready for ranging. Press the Power button a second time to range, or hold the Power button depressed to scan. Scanning automatically updates the display. When ranging without a steady rest at long distances, you can easily differentiate the pin.
9 from other potential targets in the distance behind the pin. When you press and hold the MODE button for 1 second, the Quick Set Menu™ is prepared for navigation. To set or activate a mode, you must advance to that function by pressing the MODE button until that function is flashing. To activate a mode, press the POWER button, the icon will display steadily and the word “ON” will appear in the bottom portion of the display.
Function 1: True Golf Range (TGR) (GX-II only) TGR is an adjusted range that will compensate for 2 uphill shots that play long and downhill shots that 3 4 5 play short. TGR is calculated from the line of sight 6 7 distance, incline or decline, current temperature and 8 9 altitude, and will display the adjusted range the P golfer should play to. For example, if you have a lie 150 yards from the pin, but the green falls 6 degrees above your ball, you will play the shot as if it were 164 yards.
11 When entering the Quick Set Menu, TGR is the first mode encountered. The TGR icon will flash and the lower display will show whether it is on or off. Press POWER to toggle TGR on and off. Press MODE to save your selection and move on to the next function. NOTE: Turning TGR off will also disable the Club Selector and inclinometer display; all distance readings will be line-of-sight measurements. How do I activate TGR? (GX-II only) 1) Press POWER to activate the rangefinder.
Function 2: Current Temperature Input (GX-II only) Temperature is one of the factors used to determine TGR ranges; inputting the current temperature will 2 3 4 increase the accuracy of your TGR measurement. The 5 6 7 default temperature setting is 75 degrees F. After activating TGR, the last saved temperature will be 8 9 P flashing in the bottom portion of the display.
13 How do I manually input the current temperature? (GX-II only) 1) Press POWER to activate the rangefinder. 2) Press and hold MODE for at least 1 second to enter the Quick Set Menu. 3) Verify that TGR is turned on; if TGR is not activated, you will not be able to enter the current temperature. To activate TGR, see “How do I activate TGR?” above. 4) Press and release MODE again; the last saved temperature will be flashing in the lower portion of the display.
Function 3: Altitude Input (GX-II only) Altitude is one of the factors used to determine TGR ranges; inputting the local elevation/altitude will increase the accuracy of your TGR measurement. 2 3 4 5 6 7 The default altitude setting is 1000 ft, and will be shown in the lower portion of the display. After 8 9 P activating TGR, the last saved current temperature will be displayed, followed by the last saved current altitude.
15 3) Verify that TGR is turned on; if TGR is not activated, you will not be able to enter the current temperature or altitude. To activate TGR, see “How do I activate TGR?” above. 4) Press and release Mode; the last saved current temperature will now be flashing. Press and release MODE again and the last saved current altitude will be flashing.
Functions 4 & 5: Club Selector & Distance Input (GX-II only) When activated, the Club Selector function recommends the proper iron for the current distance, shot angle, environmental conditions, and multiple other factors. This will be shown by a pointer leading to the appropriate club on the right side of the display. If the TGR distance falls between two particular clubs, or is too long/short for any of the available distances, this will be indicated as well.
17 If the TGR distance is only slightly longer than ideal for your 6-iron, the 6-iron will be highlighted along 2 3 4 5 with the pointer beside the 6-iron and the pointer 6 7 between the 5-iron and 6-iron. 8 9 P If the TGR distance is only slightly shorter than ideal for your 5-iron, the 5-iron will be highlighted along with the pointer beside the 5-iron and the pointer 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 between the 5-iron and 6-iron.
For shots longer than recommended with a 2-iron, the 2-iron will be highlighted and the 3 closest 2 3 4 5 pointers will flash. 6 7 8 9 P The same is true for shots under the recommended distance for your pitching wedge; the pitching wedge will be highlighted and the 3 closest arrows 2 3 4 5 6 7 will flash.
19 To activate the Club Selector, TGR must be activated. Use MODE to navigate through the Quick Set Menu until the Club icon is flashing; the lower display will show whether it is on or off. Press POWER to toggle the Club setting on or off. Press MODE to save your selection and move to the next function. Critical to accurate club recommendations is the known striking distance of the user with specific clubs.

NOTE: Though we strongly recommend inputting the specific distances obtained with each of the irons mentioned above, the specialized algorithms used by the GX-II will make logical assumptions about the remaining club(s) if specific distances are not known for one or more of the remaining clubs.
21 When your selection is shown in the upper numeric display, press MODE to save your selection and move on to the 6-iron. The 6-iron symbol and pointer will now be highlighted. Press POWER to begin incrementing through the 6-iron distance settings. The default setting is 150 yards. Pressing POWER will increment through a range of 80 yards to 220 yards in 5-yard/meter increments. When your selection is shown in the upper numeric display, press MODE to save your selection and move onto the 4-iron.
club. For example, if you choose 175 yards for your 6-iron, the lowest available distance for your 4-iron will be 180 yards. Once the specific distances obtained with each of the clubs above has been input, you will be asked to input the temperature and elevation at which these distances were obtained. Following the input of your measured 4-iron striking distance, the next depression of MODE will begin the process of entering the temperature at which this distance was obtained.
23 The last saved altitude will be flashing in the bottom portion of the display. Press POWER to begin 2 3 incrementing through the altitude settings. The 4 5 6 7 default setting is 1,000 feet. Pressing POWER will increment through a range of 0 feet to 9999 feet in 8 9 P 500 foot increments. When the appropriate altitude is displayed, press MODE to save your selection and move to the next mode (yards/meters).
6) While the Club Selector icon is flashing, press and release POWER as necessary until the Club Selector icon is displayed steadily and the word “ON” is displayed in the lower portion of the display. 7) To save the changes and return to ranging mode, let the unit sit idle for at least 20 seconds until an automatic power-down occurs, or simply press and hold MODE for at least 1 second.
25 used by the GX-II will make logical assumptions about the remaining club(s) if specific distances are not known for one or more of the remaining clubs. *Reminder: You cannot input a distance value less than or equal to the previous club. For example, if you choose 155 yards for your 8-iron, the lowest available distance for your 6-iron will be 160 yards. The procedure for inputting specific striking distance begins immediately after activating the Club Selector feature.
3) The 6-iron symbol will now be highlighted and the last saved distance will be shown in the upper numeric display. If you wish to input a distance other than the one shown, proceed to step 4. To save the shown distance for your 6-iron, press MODE and skip to step 5 below. 4) Press POWER to set the distance associated with your 6-iron.
27 6) Press POWER to set the distance associated with your 4-iron shot in 5-yard/meter increments beginning with the last saved distance, until 240 yards has been reached. Once 240 yards has been reached, it will reset to 100 yards and start over again. When the appropriate distance is displayed, let the unit sit idle for at least 20 seconds until an automatic power-down occurs, or simply press and hold MODE for at least 1 second.
How Do I Input the Temperature and Altitude at Which the Striking Distance for Each Club was Measured? (GX-II only) The procedure for inputting the temperature and altitude at which each striking distance was measured begins immediately after inputting the specific club distances.
29 3) The last saved altitude will be flashing in the bottom portion of the display and the Club Selector icon will be highlighted in the upper numeric display. If you wish to input an altitude other than the one shown, proceed to step 4. To save the shown altitude and return to ranging mode, let the unit sit idle for at least 20 seconds until an automatic power-down occurs, or simply press and hold Mode for at least 1 second.
Function 6: Selectable Reticles This mode is used to choose from any one of 7 preloaded aiming reticles for your GX series digital laser rangefinder. To select a reticle, press MODE repeatedly until the reticle begins flashing. Each time POWER is depressed the reticle style will change. Press MODE to select a reticle.
31 How do I choose a particular aiming reticle/crosshair? 1) Press POWER to activate the rangefinder. 2) Press and hold MODE for at least 1 second to enter the Quick Set Menu. 3) Press and release MODE repeatedly until the reticle is flashing. 4) While the reticle is flashing, press and release POWER. 5) Continue pressing and releasing POWER until the desired reticle is flashing.
Function 7: Yards Output This mode displays both Line-of-Sight (LOS) and TGR 2 3 4 ranges in yards, and will disable readings in meters. 5 6 7 8 TGR is displayed in large numbers just above the reticle; LOS is displayed in small numbers below and 9 P to the right of the reticle (above the angle readout). Press POWER to toggle yards on or off. Press MODE to save your selection and move to the next function. NOTE: TGR is available on GX-II models only.
33 5) To save the changes and return to ranging mode, let the unit sit idle for at least 20 seconds until an automatic power-down occurs, or simply press and hold MODE for at least 1 second. NOTE: If yards is selected, the temperature will automatically be measured by Fahrenheit. If meters is selected, the temperature will be measured in Celsius. Function 8: Meter Output This mode displays both line-of-sight (LOS) and TGR ranges in meters, and will disable readings in yards.
How do I activate the Meters mode? 1) Press POWER to activate the rangefinder. 2) Press and hold MODE for at least 1 second to enter the Quick Set Menu. 3) Press and release MODE repeatedly until the meters icon is flashing. 4) While the meters icon is flashing, press and release POWER as necessary until the meters icon is displayed steadily and the word “ON” is displayed in the lower right portion of the display.
35 How do I activate the inclinometer? (GX-II only) TGR must be activated, at which time the inclinometer will be activated automatically. How do I reset the unit to factory settings? Press and hold POWER and MODE simultaneously for at least 10 seconds. Can I Use TGR without manually inputting distances for an 8, 6, or 4-iron? Yes, TGR can be used without activating the Club feature, however TGR must be activated for the Club Selector feature to be activated.
Other Useful Features: 1. “ON” and “OFF” will appear in the lower numeric display to indicate the status of each function while scrolling through the menu options. 2. Hold MODE + POWER for at least 10 seconds to reset the unit to factory settings. 3. Hold MODE for at least 1 second to enter the Quick Set Menu, or to exit the Quick Set Menu and save all changes. 4. Pressing POWER will toggle menu options on/off, and increment through mode options. 5.
37 Cleaning/Maintenance Blow away dust or debris on lenses, or use a soft lens brush (such as the one found on the Leupold LensPen). To remove fingerprints, water spots or tougher dirt, use a soft cotton cloth or the cleaning end of the Leupold LensPen. A lens tissue with lens cleaning fluid may be used for more stubborn dirt. Always apply cleaning fluid to the cleaning cloth, never directly to the lens.
Warranty/Repair Your Leupold GX Series digital laser rangefinder is warranted by the Leupold Green Ring™ Electronics Warranty, and is protected from defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase.
