The water softener
The water softener removes minerals from
the water supply, which would have a
detrimental effect on the washing results
and on the appliance.
The higher the content of these minerals,
the harder your water is. Water hardness is
measured in equivalent scales.
The water softener should be adjusted
according to the hardness of the water in
your area. Your local water authority can
advise you on the hardness of the water in
your area. It is important to set the right
level of the water softener to assure good
washing results.

Do not use salt at this level.
If you use multi-tablets containing salt and
the hardness of your water is lower than
21dH, you can set the lowest water
softener level. It deactivates the salt refill
indicator.
If you use standard detergent or multi-
tablets without salt, set the proper
water hardness level to keep the salt
refill indicator active.
How to set the water softener
level
The appliance must be in programme
selection mode.
1. Make sure that the programme marker
on the knob is aligned with the indicator
on/off .
2. To enter the user mode, turn the knob
counterclockwise until the symbol of the
first programme is aligned with the
on/off indicator. Press and hold the
Start until the indicators start , on/off
and
start to flash.
• The intermittent flashing of
refers to the current set level, e.g. 5
flashes + pause + 5 flashes = level 5.
3. Press the Start button again and again
to change the setting. Each time you
press the Start button the level number
