2 Introduction
This chapter contains information on the function of the archive, backup, and restore. »IPC
Backup & Restore« requires the Microsoft Windows® XP operating system.
2.1 Functions
The »IPC Backup & Restore« software provides the following basic functions:
1. Creation and management of archives Archive
( 25),
2. Creation of backups Backup with USB stick
( 27),
3. Update of the runtime software Update
( 31).
For archives and backups, different storage media are used. Information on the differences
between archives and backups and the storage media to be selected can be found in the
following chapters:

2.1.1 Using Compact Flash cards
Compact Flash cards of swissbit® are available in different versions.
 »IPC Backup & Restore« only supports the "Fixed Disk (non removable)" version with
ultra direct memory access (UDMA) which
– is used in the industrial PC as bootable memory medium,
– can be partitioned and formatted like a hard disk.
 Note!
For an error-free backup and restore of data in the »IPC Backup & Restore« only
Compact Flash cards of the company swissbit®, variant "Fixed Disk(non
removable) with ultra direct memory access (UDMA)" are approved!
