Control technology | IPC Backup & Restore Introduction Differences between archive, backup, and restore 2.2 Differences between archive, backup, and restore Note! The archive of a CF card is basically different from a backup of an industrial PC. The contents and the structure of archive and backup are different. This is why an archive can, for instance, not be replaced by a backup. 2.2.1 What is an archive? The term Archive describes the contents of a CF card.
Control technology | IPC Backup & Restore Introduction Using an archive 2.3 Using an archive You can restore the archive of a CF card on your engineering PC on a new Compact Flash card. Note! Observe the differences between the storage media when restoring archives! • A restore only restores configuration-dependent software components. • During the restore, the whole contents of the Compact Flash card are restored.
Control technology | IPC Backup & Restore Introduction Using a backup 2.4 Using a backup Whereas CF card archives represent a complete data base, USB sticks are designed for the backup of individual IPC components. An advantage of the use of backups is the automatic backup functionality when booting up the industrial PC. Unlike CF card archiving, the USB stick is not to be removed from the industrial PC.
Control technology | IPC Backup & Restore Introduction Using a backup The more IPC components you select, the more memory space is required on your USB stick. When creating the first backup, all components should be selected. Data ( 29) As soon as backups are created at regular intervals, we recommend only to backup the IPC components that change. These are mainly data. Please read the section Backup with USB stick ( 27) to see which data are backed up.
Control technology | IPC Backup & Restore Introduction Using a restore 2.5 Using a restore Restoring an archive located on the engineering PC on a Compact Flash card (CF card). To restore data, the USB stick must be switched from the engineering PC to the industrial PC. Note! • Restore with a USB stick only restores the IPC components previously selected, • Restore the CF card restores all data bases of the CF card.
Control technology | IPC Backup & Restore Introduction Summary of the functions 2.6.2 USB stick (backup) Note! A backup created with a USB stick must only be restored via a USB stick. When the contents of a CF card are archived, the contents must only be restored on another CF card. To ensure an error-free backup and restore, only use CF cards made by the company swissbit®.
