AppendixB.SynchronizingpasswordinClientSecurity
SolutionaftertheWindowspasswordisreset
AftertheWindowspasswordisreset,ClientSecuritySolutioncontinuallypromptsyouforanewWindows
password,butthendisplaysanerrormessageindicatingthatthepasswordisincorrect.Windowssecurityis
designedthiswaysothatyoursecuritycredentialsareinvalidatedwhenyourWindowspasswordisreset.
Windowswillpromptawarningmessageateachattempttoresetyourpassword.Also,notonlyisClient
SecuritySolutionaffectedbyresettingyourWindowspassword,butyouwillalsoloseaccesstoyour
certicatesandlesthatareencryptedbyWindowsEFS.WhenClientSecuritySolutioncannolonger
accessyourWindowssecuritycredentials(asaresultofthepasswordreset),ClientSecuritySolution
willcontinuallypromptyouforthenewpasswordandthendisplayanerrormessageindicatingthatthe
passwordyouenteredisinvalid.ClientSecuritySolutioncannotfunctionwhentheWindowssecurity
credentialsareinvalidatedinthisway.IfyourWindowspasswordhasbeenchanged(forexample,you
arepromptedtospecifyboththeoldandthenewpassword),yoursecuritycredentialsarepreserved
andprotectedbythenewpassword.
TosynchronizepasswordinCSSaftertheWindowspasswordisreset,dothefollowing:
1.RestoreabackupofyoursystempriortoresettingtheWindowspassword.
2.ResetyourWindowspasswordbacktowhatitwasoriginally.Thisshouldrestoreaccesstoyour
Windowssecuritycredentials.
3.CreateanewWindowsaccountandstartusingitinsteadoftheoriginalaccountwithcorrupted
credentials.
4.Followthismethodtorecoveryoursystem:
a.LaunchthePasswordManager.
b.ClickImport/ExportandselectExportentrylist.
c.Specifyalocationtosavetheleandenteralename.
d.EnterapasswordfortheEntriesle.
e.ClosethePasswordManager.
f.LaunchClientSecuritySolution.
g.ClickAdvanced➙Resetsecuritysettings.
h.EnterthenewWindowspasswordwhenprompted.
i.ClientSecuritySolutionwillpromptyoutorestartthesystem.
j.Afterthesystemrestarts,launchthePasswordManager.
k.ClickImport/ExportandselectImportentrylist.
l.Browsethelethatwassavedearlier.
m.Enterthepasswordwhenprompted.
