4.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEnteragaintocontinue.Theuserharddiskpasswordis
changed.

Tipsonusingtheharddiskpasswords
•YoucansettheminimumlengthofaharddiskpasswordthroughtheSecuritymenu.
•Ifyousetaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters,theharddiskdrivecanbeusedonlywitha
computerthatcanrecognizeaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters.Ifyoutheninstallthe
harddiskdriveinacomputerthatcannotrecognizeaharddiskpasswordthatcontainsmorethan
sevencharacters,youcannotaccessthedrive.
•Recordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgettheuserharddiskpassword,orbothuser
andmasterharddiskpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordsorrecoverdatafromtheharddisk
drive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethehard
diskdrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.
Notes:TheeDrivestoragedrivesorTrustedComputingGroup(TCG)Opal-compliantstoragedrivesprovide
self-encryptioncapabilitiestosecureyourdata.
•IfaTCGOpal-compliantstoragedriveandaTCGOpalmanagementsoftwareprogramareinstalled,and
theTCGOpalmanagementsoftwareprogramisactivated,theharddiskpasswordisnotavailable.
•IfaneDrivestoragedriveisinstalledinyourcomputer,andyourcomputerispreinstalledwiththe
Windows8.1orWindows10operatingsystem,theharddiskpasswordisnotavailable.

Toprotectpasswordsfromunauthorizedsecurityattacks,refertothefollowingtipstomaximizesecurity:
•Setapower-onpasswordaswellasaharddiskpasswordforyourinternalstoragedrive.Refertothe
proceduresin“Power-onpassword”onpage51and“Harddiskpasswords”onpage53.Forsecurity,
alongerpasswordisrecommended.
•IfaDiskEncryptionstoragedriveisinstalledinyourcomputer,besuretoprotectthecontentsofyour
computermemoryfromunauthorizedaccessesbyuseofdriveencryptionsoftware,suchasMicrosoft
WindowsBitLocker
®
