Harddiskdriveproblems
•Problem:Theharddiskdrivemakesarattlingnoiseintermittently.
Solution:Therattlingnoisemightbeheard:
–Whentheharddiskdrivebeginsornishesgettingaccesstodata.
–Whenyoucarrytheharddiskdrive.
–Whenyoucarryyourcomputer.
Thisisanormalcharacteristicofaharddiskdriveandisnotadefect.
•Problem:Theharddiskdrivedoesnotwork.
Solution:OntheBootmenuofThinkPadSetup,makesurethattheharddiskdriveisontheBootpriority
orderlist.IfitisontheExcludedfrombootorderlist,itisdisabled.Selecttheentryforitonthelistand
presstheShift+1key.ThismovestheentrytotheBootpriorityorderlist.
•Problem:Aftersettingaharddiskpasswordontheharddiskdriveofthecomputer,youmovedthedrive
toanothercomputer.Nowyoucannotunlocktheharddiskpassword.
Solution:Yourcomputersupportsanenhancedpasswordalgorithm.Computersolderthanyoursmight
notsupportsuchasecurityfunction.
Asolid-statedriveproblem
Problem:WhenyoucompresslesorfoldersbyuseofthedatacompressionfunctioninWindows,andthen
decompressthem,theprocessofwritingtoorreadingfromthelesorfoldersisslow.
Solution:ApplythediskdefragmentationtoolinWindowsforfasteraccesstothedata.
Opticaldriveproblems
•Problem:Theopticaldrive,suchasaCD,DVD,orCD-RWdrive,doesnotwork.
Solution:MakesurethatthecomputeristurnedonandaCD,DVD,orCD-RWisproperlyloadedonthe
centerpivotofthedrive.(Youshouldhearaclick.)
Makesurethatthedriveconnectorisrmlyconnectedtothecomputer.Ifyouuseanoptionthathasabay
forinstallingthedrive,makesurethattheoptionisrmlyconnectedtothecomputerandworksproperly.
Makesurethatthedrivetrayisrmlyclosed.
Makesurethatthedevicedriversarecorrectlyinstalled.
•Problem:YouhearanoisefromthedrivewhentheCD,DVD,orCD-RWdiscisspinning.
Solution:Ifthediscisnotcorrectlyloadedonthecenterpivotofthedrive,itmightrubagainstthedrive
coverandmakeanoise.Makesurethatthediscisloadedcorrectlyinthedrive.
