Capitolo 1. Important safety information Avvertenza: Before using this manual, it is important that you read and understand all the related safety information for this product. Refer to the Safety and Warranty Guide that you received with this product for the latest safety information. Reading and understanding the safety information reduces the risk of personal injury and damage to your product.
2 Hardware Installation and Replacement Guide
Capitolo 2. Overview This guide is intended to be used by customers who are installing or replacing Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs). This guide does not include procedures for all parts. It is expected that cables, switches, and certain mechanical parts can be replaced by trained service personnel without the need for step-by-step procedures. Nota: Use only the parts provided by Lenovo™.
v Limit your movement. Movement can cause static electricity to build up around you. v Always handle parts and other computer components carefully. Handle adapters, memory modules, system boards, and microprocessors by the edges. Never touch any exposed circuitry. v Prevent others from touching the parts and other computer components.
Locating connectors on the rear of your computer Figura 2 shows the location of connectors on the rear of the computer. Figura 2.
Locating components Figura 3 will help you locate the various components in your computer. Figura 3.
Identifying parts on the system board The system board (sometimes called the planar or motherboard) is the main circuit board in your computer. It provides basic computer functions and supports a variety of devices. Figura 4 shows the locations of parts on the system board for some computer models. Figura 4.

Capitolo 3. Installing options and replacing hardware Attention Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading the “Important safety information” in the Safety and Warranty Guide that was included with your computer for the computer. To obtain copies of the Safety and Warranty Guide, go to http://www.lenovo.com/support. Nota: Use only the parts provided by Lenovo. Tools required To install some options in your computer, you might need a flat-blade or Phillips screwdriver.
5. Press the cover-release button on the top of the computer cover, slide the cover to the rear, and remove it. If your computer has screws to secure the computer cover, remove the screws, and then remove the cover. Figura 5. Sliding the cover Accessing system board components and drives You might need to remove the drive bay assembly to access system board components such as memory, the battery, and CMOS. To access system board components and the drives: 1. Remove the computer cover.
3. In some models, you might have to remove the PCI adapter in order to gain access to the battery. Figura 7. Removing the PCI adapter 4. Slide the drive bay assembly forward until the drive bay assembly is aligned with the two slots on the sides of the chassis and remove the drive cables from the system board. Then pull upward on the handle 1 to remove the drive bay assembly completely from the computer. Figura 8.
v Use 1.8 V, 240-pin, double data rate 2 synchronous dynamic random access memory (DDR2 SDRAM). v Use 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB memory modules in any combination up to a maximum of 4.0 GB. Nota: Only DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs can be used. To install a memory module: 1. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the cover” a pagina 9. 2. You might have to remove the drive bay assembly to access the memory connectors. See “Accessing system board components and drives” a pagina 10. 3.
5. Open the retaining clips. Figura 9. Retaining clips 6. Position the memory module over the memory connector. Make sure that the notch 1 on the memory module aligns correctly with the connector key 2 on the system board. Push the memory module straight down into the connector until the retaining clips close. Figura 10. Positioning the memory module What to do next: v To work with another option, go to the appropriate section.
