TheRAIDcongurationfeaturethatispartoftheEasyStartupprogramenablesyoutoviewandchangeRAID
settingsforsupportedRAIDcontrollers.Throughthisfeature,youhavetheabilitytocongureeachinstalled
controller.Theprogramautomaticallydetectsthenumberofdiscscurrentlyattachedtothecontroller,
determinesthepossibleRAIDcongurationsthatcanbecongured,andpromptsyouthroughthesteps
tocongureoneormorediskarrayswithorwithouthot-spareharddiskdrives.Asyoucongureeach
controlleryouwillbegiventheoptiontosavetheRAIDcongurationsettingstoaRAIDresponsele,which
youcanuseonothersimilarlyconguredLenovoservers.Thismethodsatisesmostusers'needs.
Typicaloperatingsysteminstallation
WhenyouselectInstalloperatingsystem,youwillbepromptedforinformationrequiredfortheinstallation.
Thepromptsvarydependingontheoperatingsystemselected.Thissectiondescribesthetasksassociated
withatypicalWindowsoperatingsysteminstallation.Eachtaskmustbecompletedinorderbeforemoving
tothenexttask.
Note:EnsurethatyourRAIDcontrolleriscorrectlyconguredbeforeyouselectanoperatingsystemtoinstall.
•Selectoperatingsystem:Thistaskenablesyoutoselecttheoperatingsystemthatyouwillbeinstalling.
•Selectdisk:Thistaskenablesyoutoselectthediskwhereyouwanttoinstalltheoperatingsystem.
Note:ThediskthatyouselectmustbesetasthebootdiskintheSetupUtilityprogram.
•Partitionsoptions:Thistaskenablesyoutochoosewhetheryouwanttorepartitiontheselecteddrive
oruseanexistingpartition.
•Partitionsettings:Thistaskenablesyoutochoosethelesystemtypeanddenethepartitionsize.
•Installationsettings:Thistaskpromptsyouforuserandsystemsettings,theoperatingsystemproduct
key,andtheadministratorpassword.
•Networksettings:Thistaskpromptsyoufordomainandworkgroupsettings,Ethernetcontrollertype,IP
addresssettings,DNSsettings,andWINSaddresssettings.
•Installapplications:Thistaskenablesyoutoruncustomcommandsorscriptsattheendofthe
installationprocessandinstalltheThinkServerEasyManageprogramtohelpyoumanageyourservers.
•InstallWindowscomponents:ThistaskenablesyoutoinstalloptionalWindowscomponentssuch
asIIS,ASP.NET,andSNMP.
•Conrmsettings:Thistaskenablesyoutoreviewalloftheinformationyouprovided.
•Saveresponsele:ThistaskgivesyoutheoptionofsavingtheinformationonadisketteorUSBdevice
asaresponseleforfutureinstallationsonsimilarlyconguredLenovoservers.
•Startinstallation:Thistaskstartstheactualinstallationprocess.First,thediskispreparedusingthedisk
andpartitioninformationyouspecied.Thenyouarepromptedtoinserttheoperatingsystemdisk,and
theoperatingsystemisinstalledusingtheinformationthatyouspecied.

ThischapterprovidesinstructionsonhowtoconguretheonboardSATAsoftwareRAIDbyusingtheINTEL
ESRT2CongurationUtilityprogram.
RAIDinformation
Duringsystemstartup,theSATARAIDBIOSisinitializedandtheBIOSversionoftheRAIDadapter,the
currentRAIDstatus,andthecongurationofthearraywillbedisplayedonthescreen.Thestatusofthe
