RecoveringfromaBIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhiletheBIOSisbeingupdated,yourservermightnotrestart
correctly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingproceduretorecoverfromtheBIOSupdatefailure.
Note:IftheoperatingsystemofyourserverisinstalledunderEFImode,youneedtoreinstalltheoperating
systemafterrecoveringtheBIOS.
TorecoverfromaBIOSupdatefailure,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetodownloadaBIOS
updateutilityprogrampackage.Then,puttheamiboot.romlecontainedinthepackageintothe
rootdirectoryofabootableUSBkey.
2.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
3.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
4.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage69.
5.LocatetheBIOSrecoveryswitchonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardjumpersandswitches”on
page42
.Then,removeanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightimpedeyouraccesstothe
switch.
6.MovetheBIOSrecoveryswitchfromthedefaultoffpositiontotheonposition.
7.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycables.Then,reinstalltheservercover.See“Completingthe
partsreplacement”onpage154
.
8.ConnecttheservertoanacpowersourceandthenstarttheserverfromthebootableUSBkeythat
containstheamiboot.romle.Therecoveryprocessstarts.Aftertherecoveryprocessiscompleted,
yourserverwillautomaticallyturnoff.
9.Repeatstep2throughstep5.
10.MovetheBIOSrecoveryswitchbacktotheoffposition.
11.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycables.Then,reinstalltheservercover.See“Completingthe
partsreplacement”onpage154.
12.Connecttheservertoanacpowersourceandturnontheserver.TheBIOSsettingsrecovertothe
factorydefaultsettings.YouneedtocheckandconguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecicneeds.See
