CN4093 with flexible port mapping (4-port network adapter example)
Prior to Networking OS 7.8, compute nodes with 4-port network adapters required Upgrade 1 or Upgrade 2 for
the CN4093 to enable connectivity on all four adapter ports despite of number of compute nodes and external
connections used. With the introduction of flexible port mapping in Networking OS 7.8, if the Flex System
chassis is not fully populated with the compute nodes that have four network ports, there might be no need to
buy Upgrade 1.
Consider the following scenario. You are planning to install nine x240 compute nodes with CN4054 adapters
or nine high-density x222 compute nodes that will be connected to two CN4093 switches installed in I/O bays
1 and 2. You are also planning to use two external 10 GbE ports on each CN4093 for the connectivity to the
upstream network and two Omni Ports on each switch for FC SAN connectivity. In this scenario, the total
number of 10 GbE ports and Omni Ports needed per one CN4093 is 22. The base switch supplies required 22
port licenses; therefore, the solution can be implemented without the need to buy Upgrade 1 or Upgrade 2.
Figure 10 illustrates this scenario.
