Passwordconsiderations
Apasswordcanbeanycombinationofupto64(1to64)alphabeticandnumericcharacters.Forsecurity
reasons,itisrecommendedtouseastrongpasswordthatcannotbeeasilycompromised.Tosetastrong
password,usethefollowingguidelines:
Note:TheSetupUtilityprogrampasswordsarenotcasesensitive.
•Haveatleasteightcharactersinlength
•Containatleastonealphabeticcharacterandonenumericcharacter
•Notbeyournameoryourusername
•Notbeacommonwordoracommonname
•Besignicantlydifferentfromyourpreviouspasswords
Administratorpassword
TheSetAdministratorPasswordoptionenablesyoutosetanadministratorpassword,whichdeters
unauthorizedusersfromchangingcongurationsettings.Ifyouareresponsibleformaintainingthesettings
ofseveralcomputers,youmightwanttosetanadministratorpassword.Formoreinformationonhowtoset

Afteryouhavesetanadministratorpassword,apasswordpromptisdisplayedeachtimeyoutrytoaccess
theSetupUtilityprogram.YoucannotaccesstheSetupUtilityprogramuntilavalidpasswordistypedin.
Ifyouhavesetbothauserpasswordandanadministratorpassword,youcantypeeitherpasswordtouse
yourcomputer.However,tochangeanycongurationsettings,youmustuseyouradministratorpassword.
Power-onpassword
Afteryouhavesetapower-onpasswordusingtheSetPower-OnPasswordoption,apasswordpromptis
displayedeachtimeyouturnonthecomputer.Youcannotusethecomputeruntilavalidpasswordistyped

Harddiskdrivepassword
TheHardDiskPasswordoptionenablesyoutosetaharddiskdrivepassword,whichpreventsunauthorized
accesstothedataontheharddiskdrive.Whenaharddiskdrivepasswordisset,youarepromptedtotype
avalidpasswordeachtimeyoutrytoaccesstheharddiskdrive.Formoreinformationonhowtosetahard

Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoset,change,ordeleteapassword.
Toset,change,ordeleteapassword,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheSetupUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage21.
2.FromtheSetupUtilityprogrammainmenu,selectSecurity.
3.Dependingonthepasswordtype,selectSetAdministratorPassword,SetPower-OnPassword,or
HardDiskPassword.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentoset,change,ordeleteapassword.
