ReplacingtheSAS/SATAharddiskdrivebackplateorbackplane

ToreplacetheSAS/SATAharddiskdrivebackplaneorbackplate,completethefollowingprocedures:

Removingthebackplaneorbackplate(3.5-inchdrives)

ToremovetheSerialAttachedSCSI(SAS)backplane,whichisalsoreferredtoasthehot-swapSAS/SATA

backplane,ortoremovethesimple-swapSATAbackplate,completethefollowingsteps.

1.Readthesafetyinformationin“ImportantSafetyInformation”onpage1and“Guidelinesfortrained

servicetechnicians”onpage115.

2.Turnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.

3.Removetheserverfromtherackandplaceitonaat,static-protectivesurface.

4.Pulltheharddiskdrivesoutoftheserverslightlytodisengagethemfromthebackplaneorbackplate.

5.Removethecover(see“Removingandinstallingthecover”onpage119).

6.Liftthebackplaneorbackplate1outoftheserver.

7.Disconnectthebackplaneorbackplatecables:

•Iftheserverisahot-swapmodel,disconnecttheSAS/SATAcontrollersignalcablefromthebackplane.

Note:YoumightwanttodisconnectthecablefromtheSAS/SATAcontrollerrst,orremovethe

SAS/SATAcontrollerfromitsconnector,tomakeiteasiertodisconnectthecablefromthebackplane

orbackplate.

•Iftheserverisasimple-swapmodethatcontainsastandardSATAbackplate,disconnecttheSATA

cablefromthesystemboard.

•Iftheserverisasimple-swapmodelthatcontainsaSATARAIDbackplate,disconnecttheSASsignal

cablefromtheSAS/SATAcontroller.

8.Ifyouareinstructedtoreturnthebackplaneorbackplate,followallpackaginginstructions,anduseany

packagingmaterialsforshippingthataresuppliedtoyou.

Installingthebackplaneorbackplate(3.5-inchdrives)

Toinstallthereplacement3.5-inchhot-swapdrivesbackplaneorsimple-swapSATAdrivesbackplate,

completethefollowingsteps.
