Installingthemicroprocessor

Thefollowingnotesdescribethetypeofmicroprocessorthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthat

youmustconsiderwhenyouinstallamicroprocessorandheatsink:

•Ifyouhavetoreplaceamicroprocessor,callforservice.

•Readthedocumentationthatcomeswiththemicroprocessor,sothatyoucandeterminewhetheryou

havetoupdatetheserverrmware.Todownloadthelatestlevelofserverrmwareandothercode

updatesforyourserver,goto

•Themicroprocessorspeedsareautomaticallysetforthisserver;therefore,youdonothavetosetany

microprocessorfrequency-selectionjumpersorswitches.

•Ifthethermal-greaseprotectivecover(forexample,aplasticcaportapeliner)isremovedfromtheheat

sink,donottouchthethermalgreaseonthebottomoftheheatsinkorsetdowntheheatsink.Formore

informationaboutapplyingorworkingwiththermalgrease,see“Thermalgrease”onpage142

Note:Removingtheheatsinkfromthemicroprocessordestroystheevendistributionofthethermal

greaseandrequiresreplacingthethermalgrease.

Toinstallthereplacementmicroprocessor,completethefollowingsteps:

1.Readthesafetyinformationin“ImportantSafetyInformation”onpage1and“Guidelinesfortrained

servicetechnicians”onpage115.

2.Makesurethatthemicroprocessorbracketframeandreleaselatcharebothfullyopen.

Attention:

•Whenyouhandlestatic-sensitivedevices,takeprecautionstoavoiddamagefromstaticelectricity.

•Themicroprocessorcontactsarefragile;handlethemicroprocessorverycarefully.Donottouchthe

microprocessorcontactswithyourskin.

•Themicroprocessortsonlyonewayonthesocket.

3.Alignthemicroprocessor1withthesocket(notethealignmentmark2andthepositionofthenotches);

then,carefullyplacethemicroprocessoronthesocket,closethemicroprocessorbracketframe

andclosethemicroprocessorreleaselatch

4.Gentlylowertheheatsinkonthemicroprocessor.

5.Installtheheatsinkonthemicroprocessor.
