Toinstalladrivecage,completethefollowingsteps:
1.Makesurethatthebackplaneorbackplateisremovedfromthedrivecage.(See“Removingthe
backplaneorbackplate(3.5-inchdrives)”onpage153or“RemovingtheSASbackplane(2.5-inch
drives)”onpage155forinstructions,asapplicable.)
2.Lineupthedrivecagewiththedrivebaysonthefrontoftheserver.
3.Pushthedrivecageintotheserveruntilitstops.
4.Aligntheholesinthetopofthedrivecagewiththeholesinthetopofthechassis;then,insertthe
screwsthatsecurethedrivecagetothechassis.
5.Installthebackplaneorbackplate.(See“Installingthebackplaneorbackplate(3.5-inchdrives)”on
page153or“InstallingtheSASbackplane(2.5-inchdrives)”onpage155forinstructions,asapplicable.)
6.Installtheharddiskdrives.

Replacingthemicroprocessorandheatsink
Thefollowingnotesdescribethetypeofmicroprocessorthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthat
youmustconsiderwhenyouinstallamicroprocessor:
•TheserversupportsoneIntellandgridarray(LGA)1156dual-coreorquad-coremicroprocessor.The
type,speed,andL3cacheofthemicroprocessordependsontheservermodel.
•Readthedocumentationthatcomeswiththemicroprocessortodeterminewhetheryouhavetoupdate
theserverrmware.Todownloadthemostcurrentlevelofserverrmware,goto

•Themicroprocessorusesanintegratedvoltageregulatoronthesystemboard.
Removingthemicroprocessor
Toremovethemicroprocessor,completethefollowingsteps.
1.Readthesafetyinformationin“ImportantSafetyInformation”onpage1and“Guidelinesfortrained
servicetechnicians”onpage115.
2.Turnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
3.Removetheserverfromtherack;then,removethecover(see“Removingandinstallingthecover”on
page119).
