Runningthediagnosticprograms
Torunthediagnosticprograms,completethefollowingsteps:
Step1.Iftheserverisrunning,turnofftheserverandallattacheddevices.
Step2.Turnonallattacheddevices;then,turnontheserver.
Step3.Whentheprompt<F2>Diagnosticsisdisplayed,pressF2.
Note:TheDSAPrebootdiagnosticprogrammightappeartobeunresponsiveforanunusuallength
oftimewhenyoustarttheprogram.Thisisnormaloperationwhiletheprogramloads.
Step4.Optionally,selectQuittoDSAtoexitfromthestand-alonememorydiagnosticprogram.
Note:Afteryouexitfromthestand-alonememorydiagnosticenvironment,youmustrestartthe
servertoaccessthestand-alonememorydiagnosticenvironmentagain.
Step5.Selectguitodisplaythegraphicaluserinterface,orselectcmdtodisplaytheDSAinteractivemenu.
Step6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentoselectthediagnostictesttorun.
Ifthediagnosticprogramsdonotdetectanyhardwareerrorsbuttheproblemremainsduringnormalserver
operation,asoftwareerrormightbethecause.Ifyoususpectasoftwareproblem,seetheinformation
thatcomeswithyoursoftware.
Asingleproblemmightcausemorethanoneerrormessage.Whenthishappens,correctthecauseofthe
rsterrormessage.Theothererrormessagesusuallywillnotoccurthenexttimeyourunthediagnostic
programs.
Note:Ifmultipleerrorcodesorsystem-boardLEDsindicateamicroprocessorerror,theerrormightbeina
microprocessororinamicroprocessorsocket.See“Microprocessorproblems”onpage54

aboutdiagnosingmicroprocessorproblems.
Iftheserverstopsduringtestingandyoucannotcontinue,restarttheserverandtryrunningthediagnostic
programsagain.Iftheproblemremains,replacethecomponentthatwasbeingtestedwhentheserver
stopped.
Diagnostictextmessages
Diagnostictextmessagesaredisplayedwhilethetestsarerunning.Adiagnostictextmessagecontains
oneofthefollowingresults:
Passed:Thetestwascompletedwithoutanyerrors.
Failed:Thetestdetectedanerror.
Aborted:Thetestcouldnotproceedbecauseoftheserverconguration
Additionalinformationconcerningtestfailuresisavailableintheextendeddiagnosticresultsforeachtest.
