UninstallingtheLANDeskSoftwareAgent
IftheCoreServerhasLANDeskagentsonitfromapreviousManagementSuiterelease,itwillfailthe
autorunprerequisitecheck.Youmustremovetheoldagentsbyrunninguninstallwinclient.exelefromthe
\ProgramFiles\LANDesk\ManagementSuitefolder.
Usingtheremotepresencecapabilityandblue-screencapture
Theremotepresenceandblue-screencapturefeaturesareintegratedfunctionsoftheintegrated
managementmodule(IMM).WhentheoptionalLenovoVirtualMediaKeyisinstalledintheserver,it
activatestheremotepresencefunctions.Thevirtualmediakeyisrequiredtoenabletheintegratedremote
presenceandblue-screencapturefeatures.Withoutthevirtualmediakey,youwillnotbeabletoaccess
thenetworkremotelytomountorunmountdrivesorimagesontheclientsystem.However,youcanstill
accesstheWebinterfacewithoutthekey.
Afterthevirtualmediakeyisinstalledintheserver,itisauthenticatedtodeterminewhetheritisvalid.If
thekeyisnotvalid,youreceiveamessagefromtheWebinterface(whenyouattempttostarttheremote
presencefeature)indicatingthatthehardwarekeyisrequiredtousetheremotepresencefeature.
ThevirtualmediakeyhasanLED.WhenthisLEDislitandgreen,itindicatesthatthekeyisinstalledand
functioningcorrectly.WhentheLEDisnotlit,itindicatesthatthekeymightnotbeinstalledcorrectly.
Theremotepresencefeatureprovidesthefollowingfunctions:
•Remotelyviewingvideowithgraphicsresolutionsupto1280x1024at75Hz,regardlessofthesystem
state
•Remotelyaccessingtheserver,usingthekeyboardandmousefromaremoteclient
•MappingtheDVDdrive,diskettedrive,andUSBashdriveonaremoteclient,andmappingISOand
disketteimagelesasvirtualdrivesthatareavailableforusebytheserver
•UploadingadisketteimagetotheIMMmemoryandmappingittotheserverasavirtualdrive
Theblue-screencapturefeaturecapturesthevideodisplaycontentsbeforetheIMMrestartstheserverwhen
theIMMdetectsanoperating-systemhangcondition.Asystemadministratorcanusetheblue-screen
capturetoassistindeterminingthecauseofthehangcondition.
Enablingtheremotepresencefeature
Toenabletheremotepresencefeature,completethefollowingsteps:
1.Installthevirtualmediakeyintothededicatedslotonthesystemboard(see“Installingthevirtualmedia
key”onpage166).
2.Turnontheserver.
Note:Approximately1to3minutesaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,thepower-controlbutton
becomesactive.
ObtainingtheIPaddressfortheIMM
ToaccesstheWebinterface,youneedtheIPaddressfortheIMM.YoucanobtaintheIMMIPaddress
throughtheSetuputility.TheservercomeswithadefaultIPaddressfortheIMMof192.168.70.125.To
locatetheIPaddress,completethefollowingsteps:
