ToinstallaDIMM,completethefollowingsteps:
1.Readthesafetyinformationin“ImportantSafetyInformation”onpage1and“Guidelinesfortrained
servicetechnicians”onpage115.
2.Turnofftheserverandperipheraldevicesanddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables,if
necessary.
3.Removethecover(see“Removingandinstallingthecover”onpage119).
4.RemovetheDIMMairbafe(see“RemovingandinstallingtheDIMMairbafe”onpage121).
5.Opentheretainingclip2oneachendoftheDIMMconnector.
Attention:ToavoidbreakingtheretainingclipsordamagingtheDIMMconnectors,openandclose
theclipsgently.
6.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheDIMMtoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
outsideoftheserver.Then,removetheDIMMfromthepackage.
7.TurntheDIMM1sothattheDIMMkeysaligncorrectlywiththeconnector(see“System-boardinternal
connectors”onpage108forthelocationsoftheDIMMconnectors).
8.InserttheDIMMintotheconnectorbyaligningtheedgesoftheDIMMwiththeslotsattheendsof
theDIMMconnector.
9.FirmlypresstheDIMMstraightdownintotheconnectorbyapplyingpressureonbothendsofthe
DIMMsimultaneously.Theretainingclips2snapintothelockedpositionwhentheDIMMisrmly
seatedintheconnector.
Note:IfthereisagapbetweentheDIMMandtheretainingclips,theDIMMhasnotbeencorrectly
inserted;opentheretainingclips,removetheDIMM,andthenreinsertit.
10.Goto“CompletingtheFRUreplacement”onpage172.
Replacingharddiskdrives
Locatethedocumentationthatcomeswiththeharddiskdriveandrstfollowthoseinstructions.Determine
ifyouareworkingwithasimple-swaporahot-swapharddiskdrive.
Toreplaceaharddiskdrive,completetheappropriateproceduresforyourdrive:
Attention:Toavoiddamagetotheharddiskdriveconnectors,makesurethattheservercoverisinplace
andfullyclosedwheneveryouinstallorremoveaharddiskdrive.
