Removingamemorymodule
ToremoveaDIMM,completethefollowingsteps:
1.Readthesafetyinformationin“ImportantSafetyInformation”onpage1and“Guidelinesfortrained
servicetechnicians”onpage115.
2.Turnofftheserverandperipheraldevicesanddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables,if
necessary.
3.Removethecover(see“Removingandinstallingthecoveronpage119).
Attention:Toensurepropercoolingandairow,donotoperatetheserverformorethan30minutes
withthecoverremoved.
4.RemovetheDIMMairbafe(see“RemovingandinstallingtheDIMMairbafe”onpage121).
5.Carefullyopentheretainingclips2oneachendoftheDIMMconnectorandremovetheDIMM1
Attention:ToavoidbreakingtheretainingclipsordamagingtheDIMMconnectors,openandclose
theclipsgently.
6.IfyouareinstructedtoreturntheDIMM,followallpackaginginstructions,anduseanypackaging
materialsforshippingthataresuppliedtoyou.
Installingamemorymodule
ThemaximumoperatingspeedoftheserverisdeterminedbytheslowestDIMMintheserver.
IfyouinstallapairofDIMMsinDIMMconnectors2and5,thesizeandspeedoftheDIMMsthatyou
installinDIMMconnectors2and5mustmatcheachother.However,theydonothavetobethesame
sizeandspeedastheDIMMsthatareinstalledinDIMMconnectors1and4.
YoucanusecompatibleDIMMsfromvariousmanufacturersinthesamepair.
WhenyouinstallorremoveDIMMs,theservercongurationinformationchanges.Whenyourestartthe
server,thesystemdisplaysamessagethatindicatesthatthememorycongurationhaschanged.
