TheSetupUtilityprogramisusedtoviewandchangethecongurationsettingsofyourcomputer,regardless

ofwhichoperatingsystemyouareusing.However,theoperating-systemsettingsmightoverrideanysimilar

settingsintheSetupUtilityprogram.

StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram

TostarttheSetupUtilityprogram,dothefollowing:

1.Ifyourcomputerisalreadyonwhenyoustartthisprocedure,shutdowntheoperatingsystemand

turnoffthecomputer.

2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF1keywhenturningonthecomputer.Whenyouhearmultiplebeeps,

releasetheF1key.TheSetupUtilityprogramopens.

Note:IfaPower-OnPasswordoranAdministratorPasswordhasbeenset,theSetupUtilityprogram

menuisnotdisplayeduntilyoutypethecorrectpassword.Formoreinformation,see“Usingpasswords

TheSetupUtilityprogrammightstartautomaticallywhenPOSTdetectsthathardwarehasbeenremovedor

newhardwarehasbeeninstalledinyourcomputer.

Viewingandchangingsettings

TheSetupUtilityprogrammenulistsitemsthatidentifysystemcongurationtopics.Tovieworchange

settings,see“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage43.

WhenworkingwiththeSetupUtilityprogrammenu,youmustusethekeyboard.Thekeysusedtoperform

varioustasksaredisplayedatthebottomofeachscreen.

Usingpasswords

ByusingtheSetupUtilityprogram,youcansetpasswordstopreventunauthorizedpersonsfromgaining

accesstoyourcomputeranddata.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage43.Thefollowing

typesofpasswordsareavailable:

•Power-OnPassword

•AdministratorPassword

•HardDiskUserPassword

Youdonothavetosetanypasswordstouseyourcomputer.However,ifyoudecidetosetanypasswords,

readthefollowingsections.

Passwordconsiderations

Apasswordcanbeanycombinationofupto64(1to64)alphabeticandnumericcharacters.Forsecurity

reasons,itisrecommendedtouseastrongpasswordthatcannotbeeasilycompromised.Astrong

passwordshouldadheretothefollowingrules:

•Haveatleasteightcharactersinlengthandcontainatleastonealphabeticcharacterandonenumeric

character

•SetupUtilityprogramandharddiskdrivepasswordsarenotcasesensitive
