•RestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup:Ifyouhavebackedupyourharddisk

driveusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogram,youcanrestoretheharddiskdrivefromaRescueand

Recoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.

•Restoreyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultstate:TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenables

youtorestorethecompletecontentsofyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultstate.Ifyouhave

multiplepartitionsonyourharddiskdrive,youhavetheoptiontorestoretheC:partitionandleavethe

otherpartitionsintact.BecausetheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceoperatesindependentlyfrom

theWindowsoperatingsystem,youcanrestoretheharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultstateevenif

youcannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.

Attention:IfyourestoretheharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuporrestoretheharddisk

drivetothefactorydefaultsettings,alllesontheprimaryharddiskdrivepartition(usuallydriveC:)willbe

deletedintherecoveryprocess.Ifpossible,makecopiesofimportantles.Ifyouareunabletostartthe

Windowsoperatingsystem,youcanusetherescuelesfeatureoftheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceto

copylesfromyourharddiskdrivetoothermedia.

TostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace,dothefollowing:

1.Makesurethecomputeristurnedoff.

2.Turnonyourcomputer.Whenyouseethelogoscreen,pressEnter,andthenpressF11toenterthe

RescueandRecoveryworkspace.

3.IfyouhavesetaRescueandRecoverypassword,typeyourpasswordwhenprompted.TheRescue

andRecoveryworkspaceopensafterashortdelay.

4.Dooneofthefollowing:

•Torescuelesfromyourharddiskdrive,clickRescuelesandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

•TorestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuportorestoreyourharddiskdrive

tothefactorydefaultsettings,clickFullRestoreandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

Note:Afterrestoringyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultstate,youmighthavetoreinstalldevice

driversforsomedevices.See“Reinstallingdevicedrivers”onpage69.

Creatingandusingarescuemedium

Witharescuemedium,suchasadiscoraUSBharddiskdrive,youcanrecoverthecomputerfromfailures

thatpreventyoufromgainingaccesstotheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceonyourharddiskdrive.

Notes:

1.Therecoveryoperationsyoucanperformusingarescuemediumvarydependingontheoperating

system.

2.Therescuedisccanbestartedinalltypesofopticaldrives.

Creatingarescuemedium

Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtocreatearescuemediumondifferentoperatingsystems.

•TocreatearescuemediumontheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:

1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools➙

EnhancedBackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.

2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
