EXPOSURE CONTROL
The Leica X provides four exposure modes for optimum adjustment to
the relevant subject or your preferred working methods.
These four modes and the manual shutter speed and aperture setting
option are selected using the corresponding setting dials.
They both have manual adjustment ranges with detent positions - the
shutter speed dial in whole steps, the aperture setting dial in
1
/
3
steps, and both have an
A position for automatic mode.
Setting shutter speeds of 1s and slower:
1.
Set the shutter speed dial to the
1+
position
• This is indicated by .
2.
Set the desired shutter speed with the thumb wheel
Note:
Depending on the prevailing light conditions, the brightness of the
monitor screen can differ from that of the actual pictures taken.
Particularly for long exposures on dark subjects, the monitor screen
appears considerably darker than the – correctly exposed – picture.
• To achieve the highest possible image quality, the camera
automatically adjusts the shutter speed, aperture and ISO values
set or calculated by the automatic functions. This is particularly
important in minimizing darkening at the corners of the image,
which could occur when using a shutter speed of 1/2000s in
conjunction with aperture values lower than 3.5. If the exposure
metering results in such settings, the camera responds as follows:
– Automatic program mode P: The correction is made by an
automatic shift.
– In aperture priority mode A, shutter speed priority mode T,
manual setting M:
The correction is made by automatically setting a maximum of
1/1000s (in T and M regardless of the manually set shutter speed).
Generally,
– the shutter speed of 1/2000s is only used with aperture values
between open aperture (= 1.7) and 3.5.
– If necessary, the ISO value is also reduced.
The corrected values are displayed in normal review mode, but not
while taking the picture and in automatic review. The EXIF data also
contains the values actually used.
• To enhance picture quality, the aperture setting is also corrected
automatically between 2.8 and 1.7 in the close-up range, i.e. at
distances of 0.2 - 1.2m to the subject.
