Preparation Charging the Battery The battery is not charged when the camera is shipped. Charge the battery before use. Basic • In motion picture mode [ ], the zoom magnification is fixed to the value set at the start of recording. • “EZ” is an abbreviation of “Extended optical Zoom”. • If you set a picture size that activates the extended optical zoom, the extended optical zoom icon [ ] is displayed on the screen when you use the zoom function. • The zoom will stop moving for an instant near [W] (1M) when the extended optical zoom is used. This is not a malfunction. • The indicated zoom magnification is an approximation.

Advanced (Recording pictures) • Depending on the brightness and how fast the subject is moving, jitter may not be avoided. • The camera may not be able to detect the movement of the subject in the following cases. – When the moving subject is small – When the moving subject is at the edge of the screen – When the subject starts moving the instant the shutter button is pressed fully • To avoid picture noise, we recommend decreasing [ISO LIMIT] or setting [COL.MODE] to [NATURAL].

[BUILT-IN MEMORY ERROR FORMAT BUILT-IN MEMORY?] This message will be displayed when you format the built-in memory on the PC or remove the batteries without turning the camera off.
Others [PLEASE RE-CONNECT THE PRINTER.] This message will be displayed if you change the mode dial to print mode [ ] while the camera and the PC are connected. If a printer is connected, change the mode to a mode other than [ ] mode and then check that no data is being transferred. ([ACCESS] appears on the LCD monitor of the camera while data is being transferred.) [USB MODE CHANGED. PLEASE REMOVE THE USB CABLE.

The optical image stabilizer is not effective. • The shutter speed will become slower and the optical image stabilizer function may not work properly when taking pictures especially in dark places. In this case, we recommend holding the camera firmly with both hands when taking pictures. This does not affect the pictures you are recording. w Flash 1: The flash is not fired.

This kind of picture may be displayed with a date different from the actual recording date in calendar playback.
Others 2: The setting for the auto review function is disabled. • Are you taking pictures using auto bracket (P40)? Is the camera in continuous mode (P64) or motion picture mode [ ] (P51) or [SELF PORTRAIT] (P44) ? Is [AUDIO REC.] set to [ON] (P62)? – In these cases, you cannot set the auto review function in the [SETUP] menu. 3: A red lamp sometimes turns on when the shutter button is pressed halfway. • In dark places, the AF assist lamp (P65) lights red to make it easier to focus on a subject.
