3.3. Accuracy and Precision Based on Radar Equation
The LIDAR operates using the same detection fundamentals as conventional radars; the precision of the
distance measurement depends on how strong the receiving signal is. A stronger signal will lead to a better
noise ratio at the peak detector, which is directly linked to the precision of the detection. The Leddar Pixell
follows a typical radar equation that links the precision with the amplitude counts of the detection. The Leddar
Pixell’s specification of 0.6 cm is defined at amplitude counts greater than 60 counts. Fig. 7 shows the model
equation of precision, which has been taken with multiple target types.
