The PT3 listens on a single MIDI channel (1-16, user selectable in the Options window) and may translate any program
change, note-on, or controller message on that channel.
Any MIDI program change may be translated. Program changes range from 0 to 127, though some MIDI devices
number these as 1-128, and still others use more exotic schemes. Check the device’s MIDI implementation for
details.
Any MIDI note may be translated. MIDI notes are standard, with half step spacings. Middle C is note 60. In accor-
dance with the MIDI 1.0 specification, a note-on message with velocity zero is treated as note-off.
Any MIDI controller (0-127) may be translated. While some controllers have standard numbers (e.g. the modwheel, if
present, is always controller 1), many do not. Consult the transmitting device’s MIDI implementation for further
information. Note that the pitch wheel is not a MIDI controller and thus may not be translated by the PT3.
Please also note that the MIDI standard allows for a “running status byte”. For greater efficiency, many MIDI devices
do not transmit complete messages if many similar messages must be sent one after the other. If the PT3 is con-
nected to a MIDI device which is already on and which has already sent messages to the PT3’s MIDI channel, the
PT3 might not respond until a new type of MIDI message (and thus a new floating status byte) is sent. For example, if
the PT3 doesn’t seem to respond to controller changes, try sending a note or program change and then the controller
messages again. This inherent MIDI problem will not occur if the PT3 is connected and ready to receive when the
source MIDI device is brought into operation.
